NETS @ HEAT

I think that the Bulls were actually a harder matchup for the Heat and they will have an easier time with the Nets.

OK - Vince blew up on the Heat this year. Yes, but all of the games had circumstances that prevented the Heat from playing to their full potential. (Dec. 23 - Riley?s sixth game as head coach, Shaq?s seventh game back, 2 days before their ABC game vs the Lakers; Feb. 4 - Shaq scores 11 points and has 5 fouls, limiting his playing time & Haslem DNP; April 2 - no Posey to help guard Carter).

The playoffs are the time for teams to play to their full potential. Pat Riley is a proven playoffs coach and he will make the proper adjustments to help against Carter, although there is only so much you can do against such a good player. But the Heat plan to get physical with him, which bothers Vince since he is all about finesse.

The Heat seem to have fallen through the cracks as a great eastern conference team. The Heat know that the majority of NBA analysts have chosen the Pistons as the eastern conference champions this year, as well as linesmakers. Sure they are old and team chemistry is not the best, but they do still have 2 of the best players in the league and a deep supporting cast.

Consider Wade?s quote about the public & analysts turning against the Heat:

'The Bulls were `The Pick,' too,'' Wade said. 'Everybody the Miami Heat plays is going to be `The Pick.' We understand that. It doesn't matter. You don't want everybody with you anyway. You want the odds to be against you because I think that's when you respond and play better. I hope everybody goes with New Jersey. It'll be better for us.'

'The only good thing said about us was at the beginning of the year when they said `If everything goes right, the team can win a championship,' '' he said Sunday. 'After that? `They don't have this, they don't have that, they can't do this.' We don't mind. We go out play the game like everybody else.''

I?m not sure if they?ll win the championship this year, but I like the fact that everyone has ruled them out - more motivation for them. Also, everyone knows the importance of winning game 1 and sending a message, especially when you have home court advantage.

Are the Pistons really 27 points better than the Cavs? Maybe, but it was all about letting the Cavs know it wasn't going to be easy. Are the Heat 4 points better than the Nets? Yes, and they want to send a message on their homecourt:

THE HEAT ARE HOT
