I dont know about you guys but

BY FAR THE HARDEST SPORT FOR ME TO WATCH WHEN I BET IS HOOPS

i have coached for 25 years and it ruins every game for me, I end up getting PO'd on the simplest things, a sloppy V cut, poor box out, or like tonight: Baron davis too dumb to throw the ball to a wide open Mashburn on sideline inbounds ...

its just plain torture

but football i Like watching when I bet

just curious if any of you guys have same feelings ...

please comment if you have the time

gl,
gregg

gotta agree, much more of a roller coaster emotionally, and tonight financially, lol!! yo're easily covering for something like 46 min. then bam you are gone because of the examples you gave above, much easier putting a face on it when there are only 5 guys out there. did you think they gave em too much time after rom's foul going after the ball on the inbounds?

ESPN just posted the Utah 80-78 Loss to Detroit

The line was Utah +1 (UTAH USE TO BE A LOCK AT HOME)

I said to myself....

It's hard enough trying to pick the winners on the ML
in this game and a motherflower with the points.

The NBA is excruciating for me to watch. Then again, most sports are tough for me to watch because I simply become way too emotional. Round ball definitely takes the cake though. When I'm betting on a team or an over and I see missed layups, free throws, wide open jumpers, it makes my skin crawl. Also, when I'm betting unders and these ass clowns initiate a foul-a-thon, I simply can't bear to watch it sometimes.

funny thing...

funny thing...

as I'm posting my last message in this thread, there is about 1 minute left in the Nets game. I have the over at 190.5. Tony Kukoc needs to sink 2 free throws to hit 191. Of course he misses the first one. Nets go down the court and miss a 3 pointer. Total is at 190...about 30 seconds left and the Nets DON'T even bother fouling the Bucks...down by 8...Bucks miss WIDE OPEN jumper and I have to shit a brick and pray that the Nets just run down for an uncontested layup...that essentially was the difference between a 5 unit hole and a 1 unit hole on the night...this can be agonizing.

I think the time was fine, I thought PJ touched ball and was fouled ... we had our chances a thousand times over ... often times i play FH instead of game and wish I woulda done it tonight in Hornets game ... anyone have that Net/Pacer game last year in playoffs when Oneal couldnt make a FT to send it over or cover? games like that, where you need like one normal play in last 4 chances and they blow each one crush me in hoops ... but geez, there have been so many thru the years ... Once the celts tossed in 50 footer off a steal to go over at buzzer by 1, that was centuries ago, the big blond, lefty, role playing forward outta Iowa did me in that game, cant even recall the SOB's name...

anyhow, I really shouldnt bet hoops and watch it, its murder

should never have come down to that, had the celts last year they made some furious comeback and walker throws up a 3 from half court with the game in hand , not covering, I look back as i was walking out the restaurant and bam it goes in, and they cover by a hook!! Saw Walker Sun night in town at dinner, place called sonsie on Newbury street, next table over. Had his new Hummer out front, nice kid just hate that herky jerky shite he does!!

RAZ-I think I remember that Boston game...I bet numerous Boston games, primarily totals with them but a few sides, also. I think that was the only game I actually had a winner on. The Celtics punked me every chance they got last year.

I write, screenplays too ... (course nothing sold yet)

put this scene in one:

a guy bets 7 NFL games at once ...

he has TVs set up all over living room, radios going ...

and on each screen a big play happens BAM-BAM-BAM!!

fumble on goal line, punt return for td, INT return for TD, Bomb for 99, great open field run by tailback ... etc

and this poor sap reacts, prob like you and I would to each play,

going f*cking nuts, jumping up and down, screaming, overturning furniture, cursing every word in book...

awww, me in a nutshell

take care, gregg

Heyyy that is no screen play, that is a close friend of mines story. On my mothers eyes, he calls our mutual friend today and says have you ever bet 7 games and gone 7/7? friend replies no I haven't, to which he says well I kind of did last night 0/7 all in the final q or 2 min. By the way he has 8tv's set up in his house
scary you gave that example today!! Good luck with the screen plays;)

my friend is a bachelor, owns a succesful business, will not answer the phone, go out or talk to anyone if he has a losing night, used to take his play, saw him 3 days after Missouri blows 30 point lead and blows cover, he refused a drink from and left because it reminded him of the day and he got so wound up he left, it was as if he was reliving it, with every detail he gave you could see his face twiting up and he was white knuckling his glass
what really set him off was when i said i didn't catch the gameand asked him why he was doubling his play after being down or looking to ride 1 game out of the hole, that sent him off on another tangent questioning his stategy and boom he was gone, didn't here from for 3 weeks until had to drop off to him, Ilove the guy quirks and all but it is scary when you are consumed totally, I vent here and try to leave it here, no point raining on anyone elses parade.

I yell at time of game, but within a few minutes its all good ... I dont bet big $$ so that helps ... I never taken it out on loved ones either, thats #1 reason people should not bet if they cant control that impulse

take care, gregg

College hoops around the corner......

College hoops around the corner......

College hoops seems a little less like a roller coaster, meaning the 30 point turnaround doesn't happen as much (excepting RAZ's example). With less time equalling less points there is not as much variation, but with the 3 ball anything could happen. The worst in CBB for me was a 20 point lead at half by Ohio St, (at home no less) vs Penn St and Penn St. won it by 2. With the NBA it seems like the only time to watch it is the 4th quarter. I chalked the Bulls game (had the bulls) the other night, then they outscore TOR by 18 in the 4th???? I was finding myself hanging on every basket in the overtime only to get....well ya know

Pg1---FYI--i coach too....but i really enjoy watching the games that i play because for me it sets up my next decision about those teams whenever they play next...also, wanted you to know ...i lean heavily (in college) on coaching match-ups...its not something that you read in "the logs" but its something I do consider...plus, i don't play big $$.....so , if things don't work out on one nite...there's always the next nite..
good luck....i enjoy all your posts!....crib

thanx crib

thanx crib

if you ever want to email: pt1gard@aol.com please do so

how long ya been coaching? Im at a great school here, coached crazy man Doug Wrenn and other good ones at another school ... my ex capt is currently leading wr in nation at Nevada (great kid!)

i find myself worrying about every pass when I bet hoops, agonizing too much, I just cant watch and bet, too much turmoil, hehe (shit, when i go to a UW game i sit up there fidgeting and cursing every 12 seconds while people look at me like, "take something already!")

that sonic game ended a 10-0 run for me, but those are exactly the kind i seem to lose, buzzer games and havent got my share this year in foots or hoops ...

Well, I bet what I can afford to loose and for some that might seem high or low depending where you are at on the bell curve. Anyway, to respond to the question. I never watch any game I bet. I know it sounds strange, but I only watch games I don't bet since it can be stress related. During the playoffs, in the NBA, I usually bet very little amounts, and I really don't care if I win or lose since I am playing the games on a statisicall basis really and whatever happens happens and I enjoy doing the math about as much as I do anything, so it doesn't matter.

I quit watching games I bet about 5 years ago and I found I works for me since I don't bet many games each night, I can still watch other games I enjoy. Plus, I rarely bet high profile teams, so I loose nothing in terms of the games I bet because rarelly to people watch the Cavs play the Bulls at home anyway.

NBA has way to mucy variation in score during the game and watching it is like taking speed and then eating 4 vicodins and drinking a bottle of wisky.....
