Saturday's $1 million Preakness Stakes,

the second leg of racing's Triple Crown, will likely have a field of nine 3-year- olds after the defection Monday of Vyjack.

Trainer Rudy Rodriguez informed Maryland Jockey Club officials Monday morning that Vyjack, the 18th-place Kentucky Derby finisher, will not be entered in the Preakness Stakes.

The probable field for the 138th running of the Preakness is Kentucky Derby winner Orb, Sunland Derby champ Govenor Charlie, Kentucky Derby fifth-place finisher Mylute, Oxbow, Titletown Five, Will Take Charge, Illinois Derby winner Departing, Santa Anita Derby champ Goldencents and Florida Derby runner-up Itsmyluckyday.

Without knowing of Vyjack's withdrawal from the Preakness, Orb's trainer Shug McGaughey thought the competition should be tough.

"I think it's formidable," said McGaughey. "I know that Oxbow (sixth in the Run for the Roses) made a good run in the Derby. I never really kind of sat down and watched it and pinned it down. The other horse (Will Take Charge) got in some trouble. You've got to respect Departing coming in there off his race in the Illinois Derby and being relatively fresh. My main concern is just trying to get Orb over there the best way we possibly can, and if he runs his race I think they'll know he's in there."

Pena either has the healing touch of Jesus Christ himself or is the biggest cheater in the history of racing.

I'll go with option 2. He was grabbing 20K claimers and racing them at the open level in a matter of a couple weeks. They got super sharp way to quick and most also lost their edge quickly when Lou was done with them. He found and used something that went above the current testing standards and could not be detected. I mean how does a mediocre trainer at Cal Expo become the top trainer by a huge margin at the best tracks in the East and accomplish all of that almost instantly?

While there are varying opinions out there depending who you ask, I think the guy is dirty as they come .

Great trainer? Nah :nono:
Great Chemist ? You betcha :SIB

(allegedly of course)

Heard tonight Allard/Coleman will be on the sidelines soon.......

Harnessracing.com has learned that trainer Rene Allard, currently fourth in the dash standings at the Meadowlands, has been told by track management that he has been excluded from racing at that racetrack.

Allard started six horses last weekend at the Meadowlands but did not have any starters listed this weekend, and in answer to an email inquiry, Meadowlands chairman Jeff Gural confirmed Thursday afternoon that Allard "is not eligible to participate going forward.? Gural did not state any reason for Allard's exclusion.

Allard has 18 wins in 122 starts this year at the Meadowlands, with $252,455 in earnings. He also currently is the leading dash-winning trainer at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs with 24 wins, and is fourth in the standings at Yonkers with 37 victories. Allard has horses scheduled to start at both Pocono and Yonkers over the next several days. He currently stands second in North America with 173 wins and $1.68 million in purse earnings.

Gural also confirmed to harnessracing.com that trainer Casie Coleman, whose 60-day suspension from the Ontario Racing Commission for positive tests for flumethasone on horses she raced at Woodbine Racetrack expired on May 3, will be able to race at the Meadowlands. Upon announcement of Coleman's suspension, track officials announced that during the suspension any horses associated with any of Coleman's assistants would not be allowed to race, and her situation would be reviewed upon its conclusion.

"Casie's suspension ended and she is allowed to race on conditions that she has agreed to,? said Gural.
