The 22nd ranked Villanova Wildcats begin their City Series tonight at 6:30 eastern (FS1) vs. the La Salle Explorers. The Explorers are coached by former Villanova Assistant Ashley Howard. No surprise that his 4-2 Explorers are a guard oriented 3 point shooting team. La Salle has beaten Murray St, Wright St by 2, Iona in OT and S.Alabama in OT. They are on a 4-0 ATS streak. Their two losses were to City Series participants Penn and Temple. La Salle shoots over 40% from 3 and spreads the scoring around (6 players within 1.2 ppg of each other). They amazingly turn the ball over more than Villanova.
Cats are home for this one which will help their freshman who have never played in a Big Five game as these rivalries are intense. Nova is coming off a game they threw away to Baylor. That?s what happens sometimes with a young club. Line is Nova-17.5/140.5. The Cats are taller, quicker and more talented than La Salle and should kick their butts. However, the Explorers are well coached and Villanova has not protected the 3 point line well. Coach Wright will have them focus on protecting the ball and defense. My play on this one will be a 5 point teaser: LaSalle+22.5/Over 135.5.
