The 8-2 Villanova Wildcats are in frigid Milwaukee to take on the Wisconsin Badgers (7-3). Tip is 8:00 pm on Fox. Wisconsin is -4.5/150.5.
The game is billed as being on a neutral court (90 miles from Wisconsin’s campus) and the ‘Cats may be walking into a hornets nest. Wisconsin, last out, was decimated by Nebraska 90-60. They shot 34% from the field and 22% from 3. I watched the game. They got open looks. They just couldn’t hit anything. Expect positive regression tonight. Additionally, in their other games where they lost by double digits they bounced back to win. They are a hot and cold shooting club. They hit 14 3’s against both Marquette and Providence but shoot just 33% overall from 3. About 50% of their scoring comes from their guards: Boyd at 20.4 ppg and Blackwell at 19.6 ppg. They have a 7 footer, Nolan Austin who takes in 9.4 boards pg and scores 12.4 ppg. Their bench isn’t quite as deep as Nova’s but they are the fourth best free throw shooting club in the country.
Villanova beat Pitt by 18 last game shooting over 50% from the field and 40% from 3. They need to repeat those numbers tonight. Duke Brennan had an all time high scoring night vs Pitt and look for the Badgers to defend him tighter. Acaden Lewis has been awful on the road. He needs to get confidence tonight. Lindsay, Perkins, Hodge and Askew will need to continue to hit 3’s.
Coach Garde for Wisconsin is a savvy vet and will have a solid game plan. My guess is they will hoist up 3’s, guard Brennan from the top of the key plus try to get to the foul line. Nova needs to create turnovers, move the ball around and rebound. This game can go either way side wise and total wise. I’m taking the points.
