POD BOYZ PLAY OF DAY FRIDAY FEBRUARY 29

Let?s just start with this: Collin Gillespie is questionable for today?s game. We were all wondering what was wrong with him the last two games. Now we know. A deep thigh bruise will likely bench him today. Nova is at the Wells Fargo in Philly to take on the red hot Friars of Providence at high noon eastern time. Providence have got themselves on the bubble by virtue of beating their last 4 games against ranked opponents. If they take out Villanova, they stamp their Big Dance ticket for sure. The line is Cats-7/137.
Diallo at 14 ppg and 8 boards is their leader. Curiously, Coach Cooley benched Diallo in the Friar loss by 4 to VILLANOVA about a month ago. He played just 14 minutes. Center Nate Watson had a big game but the rest of the team shot incredibly poorly. Not that they?re that great from 3 but 9% is pretty bad. Despite no Gillespie, Duke, Pipkins and Watson will all need big games along with Diallo. My guess is Providence may pressure the Cats and maybe even play up tempo to take advantage. Nonetheless, they will need to be as aggressive as they always are on the boards to win.
For the Wildcats, they would love to win today to set up a clash on Wednesday at Seton Hall for the Big East Conference Championship. Can they win without Gillespie? For sure. Moore can pick up the offense but not the defense. Swider will get more minutes and the Nova faithful will be praying he is ?on?. I would also expect Cosby-Roundtree to get extra minutes to offset the 6?11? Watson who torched Nova up in Providence. Obviously, Bey will need to be his stellar self and Samuels will need to step up.
What will happen. Nova is a family and they will rally without Gillespie and win this game but I am not sure by 7. This will be played with the intensity of a Tournament game. After last games defensive lapses vs. St. John?s and both Coach Wright AND Kyle Lowry lecturing the team AFTER last game, these guys will reduce turnovers and play aggressive defense.
