POD BOYZ PLAY OF DAY SATURDAY FEBRUARY 22

The Cats are on the road again. This time for a 2:30 eastern battle vs. Xavier at the Cintas Center in Cincinnati. The line is pick/137.5. Xavier is near the NCAA bubble. At 17-9, they are about a 10/11 seed thanks to winning at Seton Hall on 02/01. Needless to say, a win over the Cats would just about stamp their ticket.
Xavier played at Villanova on 12/30/19 and lost 68-62 as I believe Nova went on a 17-0 run to end the game. The Musketeers shot 9% from 3 that day. Xavier is led By Naji Marshall (16.1 ppg), Paul Scruggs (13 ppg) and Tyrique Jones (13.8 ppg and 11.3 boards). The rest of the crew, and they play only 8 guys, are pretty much role players.
Last out, Xavier barely beat St. John?s as they committed 22 turnovers. For the season, they shoot about 30% from 3. To win, they need to exploit Nova?s interior defense, cut down on turnovers and defend the 3. I would not be surprised to see Xavier press the Cats for a good part of the game.
On the VILLANOVA side, they have shot a mere 57% from 3 in their last two games. Bey is the leading 3 point % shooter in the Big East. Robinson-Earl has been a stud rebounder and Gillespie has just been clutch all year. While I would be shocked if they cracked 50% from 3 vs. the Musketeers, I do expect them to shoot well again. They went 8 games in a row of shooting about 35%. They are due to be on a shooting run. So, the boys will be putting them up for sure. If they don?t go in during the first half, they will in the second.
This will be a loud, hostile environment vs. a desperate team, but in the end, Nova will pull through.
