The Cats are at home again. This time to do battle with the 8-6 (4-4 in conference) Providence Friars. Tip off is 2:30 pm eastern. Nova is -11.5/138.5. Providence is coming off a 74-70 win over #11 Creighton in Omaha. The Friars haven?t been beaten by 11.5 since 12/02 vs. Alabama. Their four Conference losses have been by 1,2,6 and 10.
Their scoring duo is 6?11? Sr. Center Nate Watson (19 ppg) and JR. Guard (and former Nova recruit) David Duke (19 ppg). Duke has been in a bit of a slump his last three games. He?s due to break out. Providence relies more on its offense this year than their defense. Not the best formula vs. the Cats.
On the VILLANOVA side, they barely beat Seton Hall (76-74) after a 23 day Covid ?vacation?. While Gillespie and Samuels showed no signs of rust that was not the case with Jeremiah Robinson-Earl (missed 5 layups), Caleb Daniels (fouled out in 12 minutes of playing time) and ERIC Dixon (looked totally gassed). I have to believe Robinson-Earl will be ready but not the other two. The Cats will need Swider and Slater to step up today.
Providence is never an easy out in Conference. While I believe they will fall back to earth after beating Creighton, I am hesitant to pick a side. The play today is Over 138.5
