The 2-1 Wildcats are back at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, CT for a 1:00 pm tip vs. #17 and 2-0 Tennessee. The Vols have demolished both Tenn-Martin and E.Tenn.St. In their two wins. Nova got by Howard last out 100-81 as the Bison shot lights out for 40 minutes. Nova is -2/139.5. Money has been coming in on Tennessee as well as the Under.
Tennessee is led by 5 star freshman point guard Kennedy Chandler averaging 18 ppg and shooting 85% from 3 (after 2 games). They have size: Jonas Aidoo(6?11?), Brandon Huntley-Hatfield (6?10?) and John Fulkerson (6?9?).
They have scorers: Olivier Nkamhoua, Justin Powell, Victor Bailey and Santiago Vescori. They have a defensive specialist in Josiah Jordan-James and are coached by Rick Barnes. Have they faced top tier competition? Not yet.
Barnes preaches defense and we should expect that to come through today.
The Cats can?t match up size wise with anyone. They have good rebounding fundamentals and will need to use them. They will also exploit the deep shots as the Vols were not proficient in their 3 defense in their games thus far. My guess is Nova?s guards will rotate playing Chandler to see which one can rattle him the most.
What will happen: there is no doubt Barnes has schooled his boys on defending the perimeter. I wouldn?t be surprised to see Nova go inside a lot to start the game. The Vols will likely try to start with an offense where they feed the post and kick it out to their shooters as Nova is likely to collapse two players on their bigs. Likely a sluggish first half followed by a free wheeling second half. In the end, VILLANOVA has too much big game experience vs. that of Tennessee. They also have 8 players who could light it up from downtown. A few them will get hot. Who? We?ll see.
