The Cats are in Madison Square Garden to take on an old rival, the Syracuse Orange at 9:00 pm. 5-3 Syracuse are coming off of impressive wins over Indiana and Florida St. Prior to that, to me at least, they were floundering.
They are led by Buddy (19 ppg) and Jimmy (14 ppg) Boeheim. Throw in sharpshooter Girard (15 ppg) and Nova transfer Cole Swider (13 ppg) and you can see their balanced attack. The team is streaky offensively. Defensively, they still are learning especially in defending the perimeter.
The Cats have #2 ranked Baylor up next and I certainly hope they aren?t looking ahead. They played better last out but Syracuse is a step up quality wise vs. their last 3 games. No secret in the game plan: run and gun.
What will happen: Syracuse will see if Swider steps it up vs his former team. He can knock down 3?s all day when he?s on. If not, I think they will feed Buddy Boeheim the ball and he?ll feed Girard or take the ball inside to hopefully foul out Nova?s starters. The Cats will rely on Gillespie down low to attack the rim or feed out to whoever has the hot hand. Defensively, they need to gets hands in faces.
It looks like a game in the 70?s that could be close to the spread.
