What I understand is being said. Leave the minuteman on the flag just take the gun off. I can live with that. We defended this country with knifes rocks even bow and arrows. Many folks think it was just the Indians that used bows. Thats not true. So the flag with out the gun would not bother me. The more important part of the flag is the pitcure of the minuteman.

what is wrong with a gun, djv? We do have a right to keep and bear arms, remember? It's people that kill, not guns. A gun is an inanimate object. I think it's a crock of doo. Not like the minuteman is holding a BAR or an AK!
I don't think this has anything to do with PC. It has to do with money. The minuteman logo is not selling. So they want to update it. I am still upset that the Patriots changed the logo from Pat Patriot to that Elvis in a helmet we have now. But poor Pat wasn't selling either. Of course the fact that the Patriots sucked had everything to do with the logo not selling but the powers that be changed it anyway.
A few years ago UMASS had a pretty good run with the basketball program and the shirts where selling like hotcakes. Since they cleaned up the program they have not been a very good basketball team. So the sales of the shirts went down. Now they are just trying to change the image a bit and think that maybe a new logo will help. It won't, unless they put a good team on the field, but someone gets paid to try new things.

The reason that this whole thing is bullshit is that the Minuteman just offends someone who finds a Minuteman offensive. It doesn't actually offend MINUTEMEN.
That's in contrast to naming a team Indians or Redskins that uses a race of people as your mascot.
That's the kind of slippery slope that these things sometimes create. Little jumps by little jumps until there's a day when someone dreams up the notion that naming a team "The Tigers" diminishes our respect for tigers and wants to change the name of the team to "The Friends".
I don't say that to get in a debate about using Indians as a mascot, because I really don't care enough to waste the keystrokes. But, whether you agree with it or not, at least you might be able to sympathize that some Indians don't like it. Six Five you are right. The weapon mostlikely only goes off if someone shoots it. So the Minuteman is much more important then the weapon. I have my 30/30 and 12 gauge. I can handle the right to have weapons. I find much more important here to honor the minuteman. I still think somehow we should honor the outhouse. That was a big step forward for man. To stop useing a ditch and have the comfort of the outhouse. When you think about all the reading and thinking that went on in that outhouse. Great inventions and history was made becasue men had aplaces to sit and crap.
One thing I am sure of is that the quote was not" Don't start hurling rocks until you see the whites of their eyes!", LOL!

if I remember correctly, Massachusetts mascot used to be "Redmen", which was eventually changed to minutemen for political correctness.
