Our pool was dug yesterday and should be ready when we move in June 1.

My kids are 5 and 7, and we have their classmates and friends over all of the time. Also, most of our friends have children - ranging from still in the womb to 9 or 10.

I need to take safety measures. I have spoken with my homebuilder and pool contractor, but would like to hear opinions of those who aren't trying to sell the product.

Should I go with a removable mesh fence that borders the pool or a net that stretches over the top of the pool?

Good morning Cie....

Out here the requirement is to have either a fence or an alarm connected to each door that is on the side or back of the house....

Most people go for the fence & that is what I would recommend, provide kids are not able to climb it....

A net or cover wouldn't give me peace of mind....

Good luck with the house....

Had a pool from 1990 to 2005 and went with a tall property fence with one gate. I always kept the gate locked and made sure my guests and sons friends entered thru the house. That way no one could enter the pool area without coming in the front door, just a thought.

ps....buy extra liability insurance.

So are they allowing you to put a pool in without a fence securing it or your property ?

I thought you were looking for extra security.

a fence around the pool is best min height 4 ft but not mesh fence you want a sturdy chain link fence or wood fence! Of Course a locked gate! Now if kids climb over the fence and get into pool and get hurt guess what? Your free and clear of any damages because they are tresspassing into a secured area ooo also post a sign strict warning no children allowed in pool without adult supervision!

Like The boys said no one go get into pool without coming in front door at his house is great idea also !

The fence is safest option and will keep your insurance rates low. We aint got no room for pools in concrete jungle!

But i know people who have pools and they have fences guarding them from toddlers and what i said above that your off the hook is true because i saw it happen to someone years ago.

Kid was unharmed but parents couldn't do shit to them He climbed over fence to go play in pool area and fell in. 6 yr old luckily the they heard him screaming for help.

Hi Al...Side and back doors that lead to pool area will have alarm. Pool area will be fenced. I will also add a removable net or mesh fence for smaller children. I'd set up an electric fence if I thought I'd get away with it.....lol

I've been a property and casualty adjuster for 8 years. I have had the most unfortunate displeasure of handling liability loss involving a drowning of a 2 year old child during a family gathering. I had to take statements from the owner of the home, parents of the child and all other adult guests. It was one of the more difficult 2 week periods of my life, but especially when I sat on a conference call with executive-level representatives from the insurance carrier callously discuss the value of the toddler's life and ways to limit their exposure.

That's just terrible, sorry to hear this.

great a 6' fence is hard to climb and if you want add brab wire on top or that razor wire.

trust me i picked up 100 lbs of that barb wire laying on ground and had to be very careful not to get cut even with gloves on !
