As I mentioned, it is not difficult to be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. In fact, it is a joke.
Vyrus - Hitler was nominated. SHould we have given him a break? Stalin was nominated. Should we have given him another chance? Mussolini was nominated. Should he have been excused? Yassir Arafat was not only nominated, but won. What exactly does this say about the validity of the Nobel Prize?
You can be nominated by a junior college professor. Or a college professor. Or a congressman. One local radio personality showed how easy it was. He called a congressman and was nominated in hours. It is a joke.
Lastly, the names of nominees are not to be announced for 50 years .... unless the person nominated wants it to be known.
Guys like Manson and Ramirez are in jail because the death penalty in California was abolished for some time and they were "lucky" enough to commit their murders during that time and are just serving life. Sirhan B. Sirhan is in the same boat.
As far as Tookie trying to help others, that is just BS. His crap books which were actually written by another have very interesting dedications written in them. Tookie dedicated many of his books to his gangsta friends, many, like him, cold blooded killers. That is some effort to redeem himself. In fact, Tookie also never admitted his crimes nor professed sorrow for them. So how can he redeem himself when he claims he never committed the crimes to begin with?
As far as his being a positive influence, there is absolutely ZERO evidence that anyone stopped banging because of him. The number of gang related murders and crimes has grown since Tookie has been in jail. The number of gang members has soared since his incarceration. Where is this positive influence he supposedlhy had?
To really drive it home I only need to refer to what didn't happen after his death. Many, including some here, felt that there was a strong possibility that there would be wild riots after his execution. I said not likely and was right. As I mentioned, I deal with about a hundred bangers every day in my job and before today they didn'teven know who he was and didn't care. He was a fraud, plain and simple.
His people were spreading lies about the facts of the case for years. A big problem with the media is that by and large they will let people make outrageous claims (like it was an all white jury) without forcing them to back up statements with facts. One of his supporters railed last night that four witnesses had come forward yesterday to say that he was set up by LAPD. Nobody asked why these people waited 24 years to come forward. It is all a crock and it is a shame that people like you bought in to the lies. There was ample proof presented by various agencies that poor Tookie continued to run portions of the Crips from prison. Who is he trying to save? He also once during his time in jail appealed his case on the diminished capacity claim, in other words, he plead insanity. This guy is gone and the world is a better place for it. Maybe the relatives of his murder victims will sleep a little better tonite and I, for one, am happy about that.
I would say that most criminals,probably 99% at least, have committed other crimes that they were not charged with. Imagine what Tookie did other than blast his victims in the face with a shot gun. Or do you think he was caught after only committing these crimes?
