Very sad. Many cities like this now - Newark may be the worst. Just read an article yesterday by Joel Salatin and he suggested that these cities convert all their vacant land into community gardens to feed all the poor. It is a great idea, and is being done in Baltimore and other cities. He talked specifically about Baltimore, and the amount of vacant land was astonishing.

Baltimore is great

Baltimore is great

It's one of the best cities in my opinion. Inner Harbor is great, some of the best colleges and med schools, great sports, lower cost of living than surrounding cities, and an overall fun town. Did I mention crab cakes? Just like any other city it has its problems with poverty, and especially drugs, definitely could be a turnaround story in the future.

Your bunker has a view?

:rimshot :grins:

seriously, imo it`s unforgivable to pour resources into the inner harbor while the surrounding area is such a godforsaken wasteland...

as a kid i worked in a vegetable stall in lexington mkt for 4 straight summers...and worked in the inner city for 20 years as an adult...........ate lunch and had a beer at the lexington mkt every friday for most of those years.....you absolutely had to be very careful wandering around down there
....had a friend very nearly shot returning to our office from a mcdonalds across the street(a kid held him up right on the street in broad daylight....as other passersby were yelling"light that honkie up!".....true story).....

it`s amazing that a more equitable urban renewal program couldn`t have been accomodated.....at least they tore down the highrises and replaced them with row houses....

but,it brings money and prestige into the area(if you can manage to keep a very narrow focus)......
