Finally came back on in Northern Virginia for me yesterday. 5 days without it sucked!

kneifl

horrible situation given the heatwave......we lost power for about 36 hours in 100 degree heat.....old lady had some health issues(as does the pet) and the little weasels lost power also...

i drove about 75 milesn east and west looking for a motel and nothing....

tghe thing that saved us was that our downastairs was much cooler and i had bought a battery operated little box fan a few years back for just such a situation....it`s called o2 cool and the sob ran the full 36 hours on one set of batteries(they also come with and ac adapter).......i just ordered 2 more....

next up is a generator(can`t find those right now either)...

this shit sucks...they`re talking around 105 on saturday....and a dry heat it ain`t...

Yep, it was pretty bad. We had one electrical outlet that worked so I got an extension cord from Home Depot and hooked up the refrigerator, computer (with no internet) and fan. I managed to go through a case and a half of beer during that time just to get to sleep in the heat. The inside of my condo was 90+ even at night. Been drinking A LOT of water too. Have put on at least ten pounds of water weight. Back to reality now and for a road trip to the Poconos casino for an 8 year anniversary celebration.

It was fun for me to test our homestead without power! We have a propane powered generator and it ran the entire 2 .5 days and powered everything for us. We had water from our well, 2 huge freezers and fridges ran fine. Hooked up a few lights and fans. The basement stayed a cool 75. Made some salads from the garden!:00hour

Took the dogs and the kids swimming in the river in the afternoon!

Didn't know people as far up as you were still out Kneifl.

In Germany they bury the lines and almost never lose power.

Wind and trees dont affect that.

I will soon be able to live off the grid.

Smart Thinking!!

It was pretty bad in certain areas and I was unfortunate enough to be living in one of them. There were only two gas stations functioning on Saturday within a ten minute radius. Prices were hiked up and the cars where fifteen deep. One of my buddies I have been in contact with throughout this owns his own HVAC company said business was booming. Also told me areas like Georgetown and McLean were only without power for a few hours. Must have been easier to service those areas....lol:142smilie :142smilie

You have a very nice spot afkaa,
I have to deal with Tyrannical Draconian HOA
Storm Troopers, so having mini livestock is difficult !

But,

I will do what I have to do while I am in this close to being a 3rd World 'burgh.

There is an HOA meeting the 18th this month, this oughta be great ! They expect a big crowd because they are holding it at the Fantasy Springs Casino Resort Special Events Center, where the Big Name Concerts are held !

I have a few things to say :0008

Lumi: We have one neighbor that is a certified psycho. He thinks he is an HOA on his own. We have had a couple run ins with him but he has been dormant for a while. The neighbor on the other side is about everything you could hope for. 84 year old retired pharmacist. Does everything organic, huge garden.....blueberries, strawberries, squash, etc and way too much for just him and his wife! We find baskets of produce on our porch all the time. He also keeps bees which is awesome. They pollinate all our stuff!

Just about 3 steps from Paradise !

You need a neighbor who makes his own beer, wine and whiskey !

One who is a gunsmith, and one who is a butcher ! :0008

I guess we can add more to that, electrician, plumber, welder, blacksmith,..... doctor, dentist

Hey wait a minute, that almost... sounds like my team, without the hideout
