My house is filthy and I got a quote of 300 to powerwash it.

This is normally where I get into trouble but I thought if I had a good power washer I could do it myself.

First off, is that true and second what should I buy?

Thanks fellas.

Was just about to ask this same thing as the back of my house is nasty and needs a good power washing, too.
I know you can rent them at your local hardware store if you don't want to buy one, but I need to know if its safe for the siding to use a power washer to do the job.

Also, I have a two story house. Can I do this from the ground or will I need ladders too?

You can get a power washer from menards or home depot that will do what you need, and if you catch them on sale, you can probably get one for less than $300.

Is it vinyl siding that you are looking to wash?

I would pass on the electric and go with gas-

probably safer to just get an extension - they make a telescoping extension, better than being up on a ladder messing around with a high pressure wand

The extension will probably cost you less than a good aluminum extension ladder anyway - might also want to get a 2nd length of hose depending on how far you have to be from your water source:0074

hire it done, less headache, don't have to buy an extension ladder, power washer you never use sitting in your garage taking up space

The best advice that I can give you (and least expensive), is to buy a pump up sprayer (about a 1-1/2 or 2 gallon). Mix it with 1/3 to 1/2 bleach and the rest water. Spray the house down in small segments with the bleach and water solution and let it sit for about 5 to 7 minutes. Then use your water hose with a spray nozzle to wash it off. Your house will be spotlessly clean. No pressure washer needed. :0074

Buy one you'll be glad you did. There's a lot more uses than just your house.

Buy one big enough for the job. Mine is 6.5 hp and 2550 psi. It safe on houses just start out slow and be careful it will peel paint. GL.

Beside washing the car and pissing the wife off while she laying in the sun, what else do you use it for

Hog...nothing a full grown man can't do in a 3 hour period.. 2 stories..climb the damn ladder and get her clean..

pressurer washer great for lawn furn..drivewayway..walkway...deck and fence cleaning..even hard to get of mud on the 4x4

all things grown men do everyday to take care of their homes without paying somebody to do it..

ya get a bad rap here a lot of time Hog..
cuz ya got more experience with life issues than folks will give ya credit for..

but when it comes to real WORK ...ya should just let those who bust their ass everyday answer the real world take care of household questions..

most decent models have a regulator for PSI at the pump and motor..which one can lower enough to get gas windows and shutters clean....

I use "Mean Green" from the local Family Dollar..spray on 10 minute wait..shoot is off

If you are going to use bleach be sure to cut it at least 50% and wet down the ground and shrubs/flowers around the areas to be cleaned.
