Today: 8-14

Recap..... Went 4-2 on all sports. 49er's were disappointment, as the offense looked anemic. Qb did toss a touchdown but was 4 of 10 for the other passes. Nothing to get too excited about the but already hearing rumbling of dissatisfied Kaepernick and think this could be a long year for Kelly. Have to remember it's only pre-season.

Won my large bet with yet another easy cover by France over Team USA. I'm sorry I wrote a book, however, feel the need to justify wager going against my patriotic duty. Funny thing is I was out the door when a capper I respect in Reno, NV. called me to make sure I was aware that T. Parker was sitting with toe injury. I considered buying some of my bet back for a nano-sec and I'm glad I didn't. I rarely watch games live. I will however, watch the DVD and scout handicap from that perspective. I see deColo barely played in 2nd half. Nice to see Klay Thompson step up and hit 30 points. Team USA let the backup point guard for France score 18 off of relatively easy baskets. Irving looked bored or inattentive again. While we played better D in spots we still allowed France to shoot 50% from field without 2 starters. Cousins looked lost in space, and allowed Lauvergne (sp.?) to dominate in the pick and roll. USA major weakness at point guard is glaring. Need to step back and realize we have won the last 3 games by a combined 16 points... With the last 2 by 3 each. Our team refuses to get back in transition. Our superior talent hasn't been imposing or intimidating to good competition. Looks like the first time we have seen a pick and roll....... An international go to. So what happens now? I will continue to look for over exaggerated lines and will hopefully continue to cash those tickets until the books catch up. I just hope we don't run into Spain on Wednesday for Team USA.

Plays for tomorrow.... No football...

Continued... Here goes...

Today : 8-14

1. Croatia +5' over Lithuania (3 units).... Two of the better teams in the tournament square off to determine seeding. Think this one goes down to the wire, with a possible upset not unheard of. Croatia has Dario Sarvic of the 76ers and Mario Hezonja, an immensely talented gunner that suits up for the Magic. I will be happy taking a small cushion. WIN

2. Nigeria +8' over Brazil... (3 units) another small cushion with fairly evenly matched squads. Yes, Brazil is at home and the place will be loud and rockin. Stars Nene and Barbosa have a lot of NBA experience. Both teams play frenetic defense and you never know which offense will emerge. Nigeria has big man Festus Ezeli a center for them Golden State Warriors. Point Guard Oladipo plays for the Magic. Both teams have a big win under their belt (example : Nigeria beat Spain), problem is both teams have a rather ugly loss. Nigeria shouldn't be bothered by the raucous noise as this team has faced substantial problems just getting to Brazil. One issue was the Nigerian contingent found out that someone had stolen their traveling funds, and several members of the team had to start "Go fund me" pages just to make the trip. They shouldn't get too rattled by the "noise" the Brazilians will throw at them. LOSS

3. Argentina /Spain Over 165...(5 units)... Kind of a larger wager, but think this line isn't a true reflection of Team Spain getting their sea legs back and playing a better brand of hoops. Granted this team was probably feeling the after-effects of playing without big man Marc Gasol and Serge Ibaka. Make no mistake, Spain has tremendous talent and a deep bench, with a stable of NBA athletes. Argentina also has some veteran sharp shooters that should help get over the reasonable number. PUSH

Good luck for those that need it!

I have to get back on handi-capping Rythmnic Gymnastics and Men's 10m Platform diving.....

Well, considering what happened to my total in the Spain game, I'm kicking myself for not trying to middle when the total shot up to 168. Oh well, Im not going to make the same mistake.

Play Lithuania - 2 over Croatia (3 units).... Simply a middle opportunity I can't pass up. Good luck with whatever you do! LOSS *worth a shot

Olympic Women's Hoop

1. Turkey (W) /Spain (W) Over 123' (6 units)..... The strongest total on the Women's boars. Should cash.
WIN

2. Japan (W) +38 over Team USA (W)..(3 units) Don't have time for a long write up. Suffice to say our Lady's are extremely strong and talented. A joy to watch as they play "team" basketball. The bench is interchangeable, opponents get worn down by huge runs. So why am I backing Japan here? This team won the Asian tournament and gave a smackdown to rival China by 30. Japan doesn't fit the stereotypes as they have size and are strong. They will bang our girls. I could be way off and Team USA could win by 50+ however, I will take my chances and look for the Lady Japanese to backdoor this big number. LOSS *Not totally unexpected result. Thought it had a chance at halftime with only 10 point lead.

3. France(W) / Canada (W) over 130...(3 units)... My number is 138. Win*Better to be lucky than good :toast:

4. Serbia (W) +11' over Australia (W)... Look for Serbs to keep this close. WIN

Gl.

*Still no Pre-season Football, but plenty of Olympic Men's basketball

QUARTERFINALS :

Let me preface by stating that I'm actually looking forward to all 4 quarterfinals as I think the right teams are there. I was a little worried about what might come out of Group B, however, these are games look very competitive.

1. 7:00 am (Pac.) Australia - 4 over Lithuania......3 units.... *Really impressed with the "Boomers" and their style of play that has earned them the distinction of being the 2nd best team in the competition. They won their 4 wins by an average of 21.5 points a game. Aussies had leading halftime against Team USA. Roster has winning players in the NBA. 2 point guards (P. Mills, M. Dellavedova) are very efficient with basketball and look to work into post of Bogut and company. Definitely keep eye on Bogut and how he matches up with against Big man Jonas Valanciunas Center for Toronto Raptors. Boomers have 6 NBA players on roster. Lithuania beat Brazil, Argentina, and Nigeria all within single digits. If that doesn't give you pause then consider they were blown out by Spain and lost to Croatia. Aussies were able to rest several key players in their final 2 contests against China and Venezuela. I really like the confidence of Team Australia. They feel they can beat Team USA and I tend to believe them. Give me Boomers minus short number.
WiN

2. 10:30 am... Spain/France Over 155...4 units....Im looking forward to this match-up. Both teams are the gold standard for European basketball. This is a long time rivalry. Not sure what happened to Spain at the start of the tournament. With losses to Brazil and Croatia and a near miscue to lowly Nigeria, this team was almost out. These teams boast rosters full of NBA and Euroleague talent. Spain managed to kick it in gear and blew the doors off Lithuania by 50 points. Spain has great shooters as does France. Usually in a big rivalry such as this one I look to play the Under, however, just feel like both these teams know each other so well that Defense will be a second thought. Spain is hurting without the other Gasol brother (Marc) and Serge Ibaka both not playing. There are enough depth though to make up the difference. France counters with a healthy T. Parker and Boris Diaw, Nick Batum, and Rudy Gobert; all with NBA experience. I will note, both teams met in the Euroleague Final and played to an 80-75 OT win by Spain. Spain should look to spread the floor and guard Ricky Rubio has great 3 point shooters with Juan Carlos Navarro and Rudy Fernandez or can trust big man Pau Gasol who had 40 points the last time they met. Think this total heads over the number. WIN

3. ARGENTINA +22' over Team USA.... 3 units.... *Shouldn't be a surprise that I'm backing Argentina here. Team USA has some issues and I'm not convinced that Krzyzewski has fixed what ails this group, especially after u learned that the coach gave his team 2 days off in the last 5.....? Why? Feel free to read my past posts as to why I have bailed on this team. USA will be stepping into hostile territory as Argentina travels well and the fans are rabid. They are loud and chant and wave flags that Coach may think he is back at Cameron. Bottom line is FIBA is a different style of basketball. Teams such as Argentina have played together for years. They know each other and play great team basketball. Granted Argentina is old. Their veterans are almost ready to retire, but this is some of the same guys that upset Team USA in 2004 and won Gold. 2 members of that team (Manu Ginobli, Luis Scola) play prominent roles in leading Argentina. USA must play defense against this ageing squad. In the last 3 games, Team USA has allowed it's opponent to shoot over 50% from the field. The fundamentals that have hurt USA, will most assuredly be utilized as expect a lot of screens, backdoor cuts, blocking out, dish out for open 3's. The chippiness is already starting... I see Cousins doesn't understand why the USA should expect perfection... I do understand that Cousins and his merry crew may have some discomfort being on a cruise ship while the other athletes have to live in a village. I understand that the athletes are only paid $25k for Gold medals... 10k for silver. It's almost not worth it. Team USA did blast Argentina in the exhibition prior to the start of the games. I could be way off, however, I'm not willing to throw my money at this team that has shown little heart. Good luck in whatever you decide.
LOSS

Added Wagers:

Field to win Gold Medal (+600)...2 units

Australia to Win Gold Medal (+3300)..1 unit
LOSS

SPAIN to Win Gold Medal (+1800)...1 unit
LOSS

Still working up the Serbia/Croatia game.

4. Serbia /Croatia Under 156.... 4 units. *This is a huge rivalry. More at stake than just a game of basketball. These two actually fought a war for independence. Croatia is a young team lead by Philadelphia 76'er rookie Dario Saric and leading scorer Bojan Bogdanovic of the Brooklyn Nets. Serbia came within a trey of upsetting Team USA. Their anchor Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets and ex NBA Center Miroslav Radulijica along with outstanding ball handler point guard Milo Teodosic (should be playing in the NBA) is the former FIBA Europe player if the year and Euroleague MVP at 29 years of age. These two teams will be extremely dangerous at the next Olympics. This game should go down to the wire. A lot of bad blood between the two. Give me the Under and hope it doesn't turn into a foul fest. Bol. LOSS

Start with Lady Hoops..... Not a lot of time...

1. Serbia(W) +5 over Spain... 3 units... Not a lot to say about this one. Both teams seem pretty evenly matched on paper. Spain beat Serbia by 6 early in August. I like the reveng angle so give me the points.
LOSS

2. Serbia (W)/Spain(W) Under 137'... 4 units.... I'm looking for both teams to slow the tempo and play defense.
WIN

3. USA(W) - 26' over France(W)... 3 units....unfortunately Captain Sue Bird sprained her knee and probably won't play, however, that shouldn't matter as Team USA us loaded and shooting 45.9% from 3 point land. I made the mistake of backing Japan the other day, and won't make the same mistake here. France has played decent Defense at times holding Turkey to 39 points and Brazil to 64...but this is a different animal. France had to rally to beat Canada, so they are lucky to be here. If they get in a shootout it will be suicide. I can't make an argument for France so give me the juggernaut USA Women.
LOSS

Small lean to USA(W) Over 156.

NFLX:

1. Vikings +3 over Seattle (5 units)
WIN

2. Eagles +3 over Pittsburgh (3 units)
WIN

3. Lions TT Over 21' (3 units)
LOSS

4. Falcons TT Over 18 (3 units)
WIN

BOL

Olympic Plays:

1. Spain +13 over Team USA..... 5 units.... *Had a big write up but lost the information when I tried to post. Shouldn't be any surprise that I'm backing Spain here. I have been watching the line since the report came out that Gasol might not play. I'm calling B. S. as the line has started drifting towards Spain. I wish I woulda grabbed it at 14, however, I feel any double digit points should be enough. My biggest concern is Marc Gasol isn't playing (he has given Team USA fits in the last 2 Olympics). Still, Spain seems to have fixed what ailed them in their first 3 group play games. They are firing on all cylinders again, and even if Pau isn't 100% they should be able to play with Team USA and the upset here shouldn't be a shock. I think we will see what Team USA us made of today. Give me the points.
WIN

2. Water Polo : USA (W) /Italy (W) Over 17 goals.... 3 units. This number looks doable for 2 very athletic teams that score often.
PUSH

Back with NFL plays a little later...

Adding 1 more.... Degenerate Pick...

High School Football :
GEORGIA

So. Forsythe vs. Hilgrove Over 57'... 1 unit
*OK, I was bored and decided to handicap tonights high school showcase. I lean to the over here as both teams have capable Qbs. So. Forsythe is favored by 10' and may cover but the Defenses are young and should see some scoring here. Gl.
