AR, I think a better question might be whether or not these the ratings from last season but sadly, they were updated as recently as today at 4:53:56 PM.

Sagarin?s list is based on power rankings and not a prediction of how the teams will finish the season but I have to say that USC at #1 is a joke. Oklahoma at #4 is also very suspect considering Bomar?s dismissal and Auburn at #9 is too low in my opinion.

Texas Tech gets a lot of respect at #12 which I think is somewhat deserved but Louisville?s offense may be comparable this year and will field a much better defense but they are only ranked at #16. As far as power offenses go, Hawaii will put up some sick numbers this season but are conspicuously absent in Sagarin?s Top 25.

As I see it, other teams that deserve better are Alabama, Nebraska and Tennessee, none of which made the cut. I give Sagarin a 3.5 out of a possible 10 for this effort.

I think that preseason polls and ratings are somewhat useful as they are primarily based on the various teams' percevied ability and chance for sucess against their particular schedules and not based on any recent performance. Obviously opinions begin to change once we see these teams in action.
