NY JETS at MIAMI
After losing three straight, Miami came up with a huge effort vs. Buffalo to notch its first win in Week 4. The Dolphins will look to make it two in a row on Monday night at home vs. the Jets before heading into their bye week. So far, this game has seen plenty of attention from bettors at Sportsbook.com, and almost all of it has gone to either visiting New York or the OVER. Is this the second straight Monday night game where bettors win big?

HC Tony Sparano?s club has won five of its L6 divisional games, both SU & ATS, but have not beat New York at home since 2005. They are on a 0-6 ATS slide when hosting the Jets since ?03. New York is in the opposite scenario of the ?Fins, having started 3-0 before losing last week for the first time, in New Orleans. HC Rex Ryan?s team, a 1-1/2 point road favorite, is allowing just 277 YPG thus far, 2nd best in the AFC, and important since Miami is 4-13 ATS at home vs. teams yielding <=285 YPG. Dogs are 8-1 ATS in MIAMI's L9 pre-bye week games.

Do you think Mark Sanchez and the Jets are ready for prime time? They sure are, despite a 24-10 loss at New Orleans in a battle of undefeated teams. Sanchez, the first rookie quarterback since the 1970 merger to win his first three pro starts, makes his Monday Night Football debut when the Jets visit the Dolphins.

A quarter of the way through his rookie campaign, Sanchez appears to be following in the footsteps of Baltimore?s Joe Flacco and Atlanta?s Matt Ryan, last year?s rookie quarterbacks who led their teams to wild-card berths under first-year head coaches. Head coach Rex Ryan completes the formula for the Jets, who started 8-3 in 2008 but dropped four of their last five including the finale at home against Miami.

Chad Pennington led the Dolphins into the Meadowlands last Dec. 28 with the AFC title up for grabs and threw for two touchdowns in a 24-17 victory that completed the greatest one-year turnaround in league history. Cut by the Jets to make room for Brett Favre, he went on to capture the NFL Comeback Player of the Year award for the second time in his career. Unfortunately, Pennington could have a shot at a third in 2010 after suffering a season-ending dislocated shoulder in a Week 3 loss in San Diego.

A second-round pick in 2008, Chad Henne got his first pro start last Sunday at home against Buffalo and threw his first NFL touchdown in a 38-10 blowout win. Given Henne?s inexperience, the ground attack/Wildcat led by Ronnie Brown (419 total yards, four touchdowns) and Ricky Williams (300, 3) must show the way like last week when they combined for 200 yards rushing and three scores.

Henne was 15 years old and Sanchez 14 when the Jets and Dolphins played one of the most memorable games in the history of MNF. On Oct. 23, 2000, New York rallied from 23 points down in the final 15 minutes to force overtime and stunned Miami, 40-37, on John Hall?s 40-yard field goal at 1:08 a.m. Tuesday morning. It was the largest comeback from a fourth-quarter deficit in NFL history and was dubbed the Monday Night Miracle.

The Jets have swept the Dolphins seven times in the past 11 years and hold a 46-39-1 all-time lead in the regular-season series.

Monday Night Football Preview - Jets at Dolphins

Last year?s surprise winner of the NFL betting AFC East Division will host this year?s surprise challenger in the AFC East as the Miami Dolphins host the New York Jets.

Kickoff from Land Shark Stadium is set for 8:40 PM eastern time and the game can be seen on ESPN.

The Jets are favored by 1.5 points with a total of 36

Rookie head coach Rex Ryan has completely changed the image and the outlook of the New York Jets so far as they are 3-1 both straight up and against the spread.

Ryan was known as one of the best defensive coordinators in the game with the Baltimore Ravens before taking the head gig with the Jets. He has brought swagger and toughness to a team that hasn?t had such characteristics since Joe Namath was making pool side super bowl guarantees.

The Jets rank 4th in total defense so far with Ryan?s system and attitude. Offense is another matter, however.

The Jets rank only 25th overall on offense as rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez, the number one overall pick in last spring?s draft, is going through the growing pains of on the job training. Sanchez has thrown 5 interceptions compared to just 4 touchdown passes and has a quarterback rating of 71.2.

The Jets have lacked a breakaway threat for Sanchez to throw to until this week when they acquired wideout Braylon Edwards in a trade with the Cleveland Browns. Edwards should provide the playmaking ability that the Jets have lacked and take heat off of Sanchez along with running backs Thomas Jones and Leon Washington.

The Miami Dolphins got their first win of the season last week in a 38-10 blowout over the Buffalo Bills and stand at 1-3 both straight up and against the spread. Last year?s starting quarterback, Chad Pennington, is out for the year due to a shoulder injury and Chad Henne, who started last week, will take his place.

The Dolphins are the top NFL betting ranked rushing team in the league, which will help keep the defenses honest against Henne. Running backs Ronnie Brown and veteran Ricky Williams expect to get a lot of work the rest of the season. Both are averaging 5 yards per carry or better so far in 2009.

Edwards arrives to the Jets with a lot of baggage concerning off the field issues including a fight last Monday. Ryan is not concerned, however.

?Our goal is to win a super bowl,? the Jet coach said. ?Will this give us a better chance to have a shot at our goal? I think this move will really help us.?

Dolphin head coach Tony Sparano is ready for Ryan, Edwards, and the Jets.

?They had a pretty good lineup before they got Edwards,? Sparano said. ?Our preparation doesn?t change at all. I think you prepare every week for good skill players. From our end its just another weapon out there.?

Miami has covered just 1 out of their last 11 games on the board overall against the Jets. The Jets have paid off gamblers 5 consecutive times against the Dolphins in Miami. The two teams have gone under the total in 6 out of their last 9 games at Land Shark Stadium.

Fish to save season?

The Miami Dolphins have an early must-win matchup when they host the New York Jets on Monday Night Football.
Miami is just 1-3 straight-up (SU) and ATS and would be three games behind New York in the AFC East with a loss. New York is 3-1 SU and ATS.

The spread in this game has the Jets as 2.5-point road favorites at ****Sports.com with an Over/Under of just 36.5 points. A vast majority of bettors are favoring the New Yorkers.

Both teams have young quarterbacks going in this game. Miami is starting Chad Henne after losing veteran Chad Pennington for the season. Henne engineered a 38-10 home win over Buffalo last week, but it was the running game that racked up 250 yards.

Henne managed the Bills? game nicely, going 15-22 for 115 yards and one touchdown. He also didn?t throw a pick. The Dolphins will again depend on the ?Wildcat? and the rest of the running game. The Jets are giving up 100 YPG, just 13th in the league in rushing defense.

Where the Jets have really excelled this year is pass defense. They are 4th in the NFL and have shut down the likes of Tom Brady and Drew Brees. Miami is also weak at wide receiver, so their only chance is to run the ball and get some successful play-action fakes.

Jets motivated by New England?s loss

New England had a surprise loss at Denver on Sunday. That means the Jets are back in first place in the AFC East with a win. New York also has a head-to-head victory with New England this year.

Jets? quarterback Mark Sanchez has had a great rookie year overall, but he imploded last week at New Orleans with three interceptions and a lost fumble. It will be interesting to see how he bounces back in another hostile environment.

New York has a good rushing attack with Thomas Jones and Leon Washington, but Miami has done a great job stopping the run at 61 YPG. That leads the entire NFL early on.

New York has newly acquired receiver Braylon Edwards ready to go. That is important as Jerricho Cotchery is doubtful.

The Jets are just 1-5 ATS in its last six games as a road favorite. However, Miami is just 1-5 ATS in its last six games as a home underdog.

The head-to-head meetings show New York is 10-1 ATS in its last 11 meetings in Miami. New York has also won the last three South Beach games straight-up.
