Nope. Wrong and not even close. The Paris accords would never have kept the North from invading the South under any circumstances without permanent US boots on the ground in the South. The South's armed forces were weak and hopelessly corrupt (think the current situation in Iraq).

Think there was any appettite in DC in 1973 for permanent war in SE Asia?

The US did win the war militarily but unless we stayed there forever incurring constantly losses of conscripted troops we could not prevail over the longer term. Did we learn these lessons for Afghanistan and Iraq? Of course not, that might have affected Boeing's and Haliburton's profits. Can't have that. Gotta love corrupt politicians.

Damn, what a load of horseshit. We lost the war in every way imaginable. Every single life lost was a tragedy, and it was one of the most pointless wars ever. Vietnam naturally became a capitalist society anyway. I wish I believed in hell so that I could imagine the war mongers who profit from death and destruction ending up there.
