I know there was a thread in recent history when many here had gone into detail on various ailments that detracted from their golf game. Maybe that was God telling you to give up the game. Whether or not that's the case, I am most likely not in the shorter half of the world population and every 8 months or so my back goes to shit. This is most likely due to my physical line of work and also doing things a man of my age should not be doing. I'm talking "a half hour to get out of bed in pain" to shit. I've used Doans pills in the past but have recently come across something OTC that works much better. It's called "Excedrin Back & Body" and it relieves a lot of the pain and stiffness much better. It is made with acetaminophin and buffered aspirin so you want to eat something when taking it and stay away from booze. I think it decreases much of the inflammation and stiffness that any other remedies haven't. I think it's a relatively new item to the market and justed wanted to bring it some attention. There's nothing more debilitating than having your back go to shit. All my retirement $$ is in Reits so I have no angle here.

never tried those before. I've been doing well with my back for several months, but woke up with it hurting bad again this morning. I still have some Celebrex, so that's what I'm going to take (and maybe a Lortab), but I'll look for these next time at at the pharmacy.

edit Why is the abbreviation for drugs/prescription/pharmacy not allowed? Never run into illegal words here before?

The abbreviation you are talking about is the name of a competing forum and is censored here at MJ's.

Thanks for the tip IO. I broke my back twenty years ago and although the surgery was a great sucess, I began experiencing some pretty bad stiffness about two years ago. I had Harrington rods instaled in my lumbar region and that part of my back simply will not bend. I'll try the Excedrin stuff an let you know if it helps.

ohhhh, duh, I understand now :mj15:

judge, if you're 20 years out from the Herrington rods, you're doing great. I've had a herniated disc for 6 years now, and although I have a very functional life, when I overdo it, I have pain.

My injury was a burst fracture which blew out the sides of L2, L3 and L4. The rods are screwed into L1 and L5 and my surgeon did a phenominal job rebuilding the damaged vertabrae. Since recovery, I have been very fortunate and have never had any back pain per se but the stiffness has gotten worse over time as my doctor predicted that it would.
