Providence College basketball coach Ed Cooley says that he's taking things slowly with leading scorer Bryce Cotton and is considered doubtful.

Cotton twisted his knee while landing after a 3-point shot in the first half of Saturday's win over Mississippi State. He did not return in the second half and was taken to a local hospital for an MRI.

PC is also weighing the availability of freshman Kris Dunn (shoulder). He is nearing his season debut and if he can't play against URI will almost surely play Dec. 18 vs. Colgate.

PC's Cotton remains questionable, Dunn out for URI game

PROVIDENCE - Perhaps by design but the rumors are swirling regarding the crazy injury situation surrounding the Providence Friars entering tonight's game against the University of Rhode Island.

One thing is for sure: freshman Kris Dunn is NOT ready to make his debut. He is very close to getting cleared after his shoulder surgery but won't play against the Rams. Look for him to suit up for a Dec. 18 game against Colgate. PC coach Ed Cooley just confirmed that Dunn "is not playing against Rhode Island."

More important is the status of the Friars' only real answer at point guard, Bryce Cotton. He is still hobbling from a knee sprain suffered last Saturday in a win over Mississippi State. Can he play with a limp? Can he shake off the pain and go for 30 points? Cooley said he's hoping Cotton will warm up and try to play but won't know for sure until later tonight. "He's really hobbled around the last few days and hasn't practiced," Cooley said.

Las Vegas is paying close attention to PC's injury situation. The odds for the game opened at 9.5 points in PC's favor. The line is now down to 6 or 7 points.
