Did anyone catch Jay Mariotti (Chicago Sun Times) during the showdown? He ripped the "patsy" Pac Ten and said that USC better improve that weak out of conference schedule of theirs now that they got all of these recruits, or they will run the risk of being left out of the national championship game yet again.

JA Adande (La Times) then shot back supporting USC and said with this talent they will be very tough to beat, and could run the gammet next season.

Made me laugh out loud - just because I felt that I've heard it all before.

Thats funny. I usually watch that show but today i missed it. Thanks for sharing it. Jay Mariotti obviously does not follow USC football because USC has always played one of the toughest OOC schedules in the nation yeah in and year out. Last year USC had the #1 SOS.

In addition, the PAC 10 kicked ass today in recruiting. I think the pac 10 had the most teams in the top 25 recruiting classes. Also, Pac 10 is known for playing tough OOC games.

What an uneducated opinion Jay Mariotti shared. Too bad he does not read madjacks. ;)

Scott- In Mariotti's defense a bit, I think his comment was more of a poke at Notre Dame and BYU than anything else. He specifically called those two out as being "down."

I will even say that USC can't help it if their rivals are dragging ass a bit, it's not like they will knock ND off their schedule.

Tell me about it. USC program sky rockets, and ND and UCLA are going downhill. Yikes. Pete Carroll has ruined the rivalries between ND and UCLA. Complete blowouts 2 years in a row. I never thought I would say this but I actually feel sorry for ND. I hope they return back to being an elite program but they sure are not recruiting like an elite program should. TY is a big joke if he cannot pull in a top 10 class at ND. Unbelievable.

I think USC new "current" rival is going to be CAL. That program is booming. Tedford is an awesome coach and recruiter. You will make a lot of money betting on CAL next year. I think they will win at least 9 games.

2 years ago USC had the #1 SOS by a landslide. Go check the final BCS SOS rankings, had USC #1 SOS. GO check computer rankings, they had USC #1 SOS. Anybody with a brain new USC had the #1 SOS 2 years ago. Try having an OOC schedule playing........

Auburn
@Colorado
@Kansas St.
ND

I cannot remember any team ever playing as tough a schedule as USC did 2 years ago.

I did you the favor.

Your right, i did say last year in that post, but i meant 2 years ago. I still do not know when i refer to this past season, do i say last year or this year. I got mixed up, but you should hve figured out i meant the Trojan season 2 years ago. There was huge talk how tough that schedule was and the success USC had playing it. Anyways, I apologize if I mislead you.

On the other hand, the schedule by USC last year did not turn out to be a joke. Despite everything going against USC way, it still ranked as 37th toughest schedule out of over 100 d1 teams. Not too shabby when everything goes against you. Oh yeah, LSU had #29th SOS and not nearly the bad luck USC had. Was their SOS a joke too? Not much difference uh??? Remember, if things went normal last year for USC opponents, USC would easily have had a top 10 SOS. Oh well, nothing you can do about that. Only thing you control is who you schedule.

Now Scott, when you are dealing with only 6 BCS conferences, 37th is not very good at all. The BCS conferences will always end up at the top of that list, and 37th is below average. Check out teamrankings.com. I think that gives us an accurate strength of schedule.

Your absolutely right, and thanks for pointing that out. The 2 recruiting sites I like to refer too are Rivals and TheInsiders. Both are widely known and have ton of credibility.

Rivals Teams in top 25

SEC: 7 58% of conference :thumb:
Pac 10: 5 50% of conference

What is interesting is Rivals has Oregon St. ranked 26, just missing the top 25.

TheInsiders Teams ranked top 25

Pac 10: 6 60% of conference :thumb:
SEC: 5 41% of conference

Rivals top 50

SEC: 10 83% of the conference
Pac 10: 9 90% of the conference :thumb:

Rivals top 60

SEC: 10 83% of the conference
Pac 10: 10 100% of the conference :thumb:

This supports my claim that from top to bottom, Pac 10 is stronger. SEC is very top heavy. Remember, Pac 10 teams play 9/10 teams, SEC you skip 3 SEC teams every year!

Another note, if there is any recruiting bias at all, it has to help the teams on the east coast and south. Athletes on east coast and south "generally" get more hype. West coast, CA is the rich state and that is it. East coast you have FL and LA. Texas is smack in the middle. I know there are more teams on the east coast, but there are a lot more players too. Also factor in the east coast bias (which there is).

I thought this post was very interesting.

Thanks for correcting me, but were the middle fingers necessary? Makes you look childish.

I think the whole argument is a moot point.......if you are going TOP TO BOTTOM.....the best conference last year was the ACC.

They had a very nice regular season, and if people didnt believe it, they went and had the best record in the bowls.

The ACC doesnt get much pub for football.....but TOP to BOTTOM they were the best

I agree with you the ACC was prob. the best conference last year.

The ACC doesnt get much pub for football.....but TOP to BOTTOM they were the best

That is because FSU dominated the conference for so long and finally the other teams in the conference are making an identity for themselves. Congrats to the ACC on wonderful year and for adding strong programs to their conference. :thumb:
