(Sports Network) - The Colorado Avalanche seek their third straight win tonight when they visit the Florida Panthers at Office Depot Center.

Colorado, which has won seven of its last nine overall, is coming off Sunday's 3-2 overtime victory in Chicago. Alex Tanguay scored 3:38 into the extra session, and Milan Hejduk and Joe Sakic tallied as well. The Blackhawks' Alexei Zhamnov had forced OT with only three seconds left.

David Aebischer made 39 saves for Colorado, which sits six points behind Vancouver in the Northwest Division race. The Avs are tied with St. Louis for fourth in the Western Conference at 82 points.

Tanguay extended his points streak to 14 games (8g, 14a), while Hejduk has found the scoresheet in 11 straight (11g, 7a). Peter Forsberg, who was NHL Player of the Month for February, has six goals and 26 assists in his last 19 outings.

Colorado, 8-1-1-1 in its last 11 on the road, opened a four-game trip Sunday. The Avalanche will visit Tampa Bay on Friday.

Florida, meanwhile, snapped a three-game losing streak with Monday's 2-1 win in Toronto. Rookie Stephen Weiss assisted on the opening goal and scored what proved to be the game-winner late in the third period, while Roberto Luongo was stellar with 31 saves. Ivan Novoseltsev also tallied for the Cats, who sit 11th in the Eastern Conference with 61 points -- eight behind eighth-place Boston.

Luongo, who came less than a minute away from posting a shutout, has allowed two goals or less in five of his last six starts.

The Panthers, 0-4-2-1 in their last seven at home, will visit Atlanta on Friday.

Florida defeated Colorado, 4-1, in Denver on January 2 to snap a three-game series losing streak. The Avs have never lost in five trips to South Florida since moving from Quebec. The last time the franchise tasted defeat here was April 22, 1995 when the Nordiques fell at Miami Arena.

(Sports Network) - The Detroit Red Wings seek their seventh straight victory tonight when they welcome the Tampa Bay Lightning, winners of four-in-a-row, to Joe Louis Arena.

Detroit, which has won nine of its last 10 overall, enters the night atop the Central Division with 84 points -- two more than St. Louis. The Wings are four behind Vancouver for second place in the Western Conference.

On Monday the Red Wings edged the host Columbus Blue Jackets, 3-2, as Brendan Shanahan scored two goals, including the game-winner midway through the third period. Brett Hull also tallied, while Manny Legace turned aside 29 shots.

Hull drew closer to another mark for his career, as he bagged his 707th career goal and is one away from tying Mike Gartner for fifth place on the NHL's all-time list. After Gartner, Phil Esposito is next for Hull at 717.

The last time the Devils lost on Flames' ice was a 4-3 setback back on March 13, 1993.

New Jersey, though, saw its five-game unbeaten string stopped Tuesday at the hands of the Minnesota Wild, who claimed the 3-2 win. John Madden and Jeff Friesen lit the lamp for the Devils, who are 3-1-2 in their last six.

(Sports Network) - The Dallas Stars hope to move back into the National Hockey League penthouse tonight when they welcome the Chicago Blackhawks to AmericanAirlines Center.

Dallas, with 89 points, is one behind Ottawa for the best record in the league, and the Stars hold a game in hand. However, the Stars are also just one point ahead of Vancouver in the Western Conference race.

On Sunday, Dallas ended a two-game losing streak with a 3-1 win over Pittsburgh to open a four-game homestand. Jason Arnott scored twice, including an empty-netter, and Jere Lehtinen also tallied, while Ron Tugnutt made 19 saves.

Lehtinen stretched his points streak to five games (4g, 1a) and goal-scoring run to four. He has posted a career-high 27 goals this season.

With a win tonight the Stars, 18-3-7-1 in their last 29 games, can surpass last year's point total of 90 points. The franchise record for most points in a season is 114, set during the Stanley Cup-winning 1998-99 campaign.

Dallas, 2-0-2 in its last four home tilts, will host Nashville on Friday.

Zhamnov finished with two goals for the Blackhawks, while Jocelyn Thibault made 26 saves.

Chicago is expected to remain without the services of winger Eric Daze, who did not accompany the team to Big D. He has missed three games with an infected ankle.

The Blackhawks, with 63 points, have dipped to 12th in the Western Conference and sit seven behind eighth-place Edmonton. They would also have to leap Phoenix, Los Angeles and Nashville to secure the final postseason berth.
