no pepper.......what country?

I can't remember, thinking they are Russian, Prussian or something. Some war buff can probably answer that based on their hats/uniforms. Strange how hundreds of soldiers are staring into that camera without exception. Plus the fuzzy guy in front row; guess he gets the next bullet.

Those looks like WW1 or early WW2 russians to me and propably low rank officers because of shoulder pads but no leather shoulder belt. Higher rank dude on the front row has a cross badge ?

And about russian war dogs, my grand dad (RIP) told me about those and that wasn't very nice. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-tank_dog

I am almost positive it is a mix of the Russian Hungarian troops. Russian leaders were designated to lead the Hungarian army after they took over the country.

You can see that some of the covers or hats are peaked with a band around the cap with a medallion on it that is NOT the Imperial Army insignia. Also, those insignias were worn just below the peak and centered, this is universal with the Cossacks as well.

Hungarians wore the same uniform except for the peak and the hat band and emblems.

Hope that helps.
