Gun ownership is a civil liberty protected by the Second Amendment of the Bill of Rights.

Not one person mentioned anything about disallowing gun ownership. It is high capacity magazines, automatic weapons, armor piercing bullets and such that concern me.

-sigh- it's rather disappointing that this thread has devolved into this. Clearly, not the discussion that was being hoped for in the original question.

It's cute how when someone asks -anything- about guns or gun ownership the extremes come out screaming about the 2nd amendment or killing.

can we all just grunt and eat bananas all day long too?

I was just stirring the pot to see what it would bring up.

automatic weapons are banned unless you owned one before 1986.

I do have concerns about armor piercing bullets.

However, I also have bigger concerns about

To me, banning automatic weapons-- no matter how long you've owned them--, high capacity clips and armor piercing bullets will provide more than "a little temporary safety".

Cie I agree 100% on this

I just don't like my rights being taking away a little at time. Like airport security.

Now I will answer the original questions
Why are high capacity clips (allowing 30+ shots to be fired consecutively) available? Is there a legitimate hunting use for this?
Nope. I think if you can't get it done with 15 rounds for personal protection 30 is not going to help

Why are guns like Uzi's available? Do these get used for hunting or personal protection?
Only place I have seen them is with young men shooting at targets for no good reason other than they like to shoot

I also believe everyone who buys a guns need to take a class on firearms safety.

Those in the know...

Know how to manufacture their own armor piercing ammo.

It takes some engineering and ballastic knowledge.

I would like a 15-19 round mag FOR THE RANGE !

My thumbs and fingers look like I have been holding them against a grinding wheel

Is this what you'd really bring to a debate? Interesting that most killers choose guns over Ford Fusions when they decide to take someone out.

For the record, I am not opposed to gun ownership. I'm opposed to citizens owning weapons that could wipe out my block.

I'm just saying lots of things kill people--just very few cases that the person and not the product is the cause.

Time to ban bees, snakes, gators, sharks, concrete ponds, Stooo Pid People who watch Jack Ass and copy the stunts

That would certainly raise the IQ Avg up by at least 30 points

I don't blame them for high airport security. When you have nuts who like to blow things up then they have to do what they have to do.

Could FLY naked be next.

I don't understand why we don't use
Israel's approach

Israel's approach allows most travelers to pass through airport security with relative ease. But Israeli personnel do single out small numbers of passengers for extensive searches and screening, based on profiling methods.

"The Bill of Rights", amendments were ratified on December 15, 1791 It hasn't changed. Its been exactly the same for over two hundred years.

Not sure how its constantly evolving..
It may be a wish for a few that know better than The Founding Fathers of the United States

The "Bill of Rights" [only a name], is the first 10 amendments to the Constitution.

There have since been 17 others...but I'm sure you know that. ;)

and it will continue that way as long as the planet we live on exist.

the line was crossed years ago..

now humans who choose war/religion over peace and harmony can engage themselves and all who surround them in this bitter battle of senselessness..
