Tired of my yard looking good for a month in the Spring before turning to dirt. What do you guys treat your lawn with? When, and how many times?

thanks in advance....

depending on your next door neighbors and how you get along at bbq's, these usually do the trick with their droppings..

no cost for a ride lawnmower either....

Not quite knowing
the type of soil you have(sandy-clay) I suggest
you look around at your neighbors lawns;pick out
two or three &ask them what they do. Usually
it`s having the yard plugged(if the soil is clay like)
then a crab-grass preventer-then a fertilizer eg
Scotts or whatever.Spring is the most important
time& mowing low the first time is best. After
that mow 21/2 to 3 inches as weather warms.
Best advice, though, somebody with "nice" lawn
& ask them. Also local Garden outlet. GL

a good site..some of the best hang out here

bohawk gave you the best advise..

should be a neighbor who has figured out the soil conditions and made the proper steps from that starting point.

you can take a soil sample to your nearest testing agency.

there should be a city or state supported agency for any and all questions you may have from soil, grass to shrubs, trees and any and all plants.

believe it or not the Scotts Co. actually has some qualified folks on the 1-800 # as well..also once you establish a heathy lawn they have a program that is set up for each and every section of the country.

http://www.scotts.com/smg/

another thing you can do is keep an eye open for the rep in your area from ChemLawn or any of those national co.'s

there are good tech's and bad tech's..just like any other profession.

these guys and girls have the best chemicals and granulates there are to get..

if you see a tech servicing a lawn that is what we call "hurt your eyes green" who can bet:00hour your last dime he or she knows what they are doing.Stop and say hello w/that pleasing personality of yours and pick their brain..The good ones loves to brag on their work.

soil..great seed..pre emergence and post-emergence treatment for weeds...quarterly fert treatment..sharp blades[want to see a green yard turn brown tip cut it a few times w/dull blades....alternate cutting direction each week...use the "White House" length in the summer..I keep all the lawns[not yards] 3" and higher for our extreme heat in the summer[this promotes a deep root system]...watering is also very important..water early morning during the summer[[beat the sun before it reaches the roof top]..fungus loves the lawns that are watered in the late afternoon or at night...

creating a great lawn[not yard] is tuff in the spring...it can be done though..fall is by far the best time especially if you want to start from scratch.

One of my friends has been creating and caring for "White House Lawns" nearly 15 years..He advises me on all the care necessary for the 27 estates I currently maintain..Feel free to get my e-mail from Jack and I can either answer your questions or have you an answer in hours.

I've tried everything for years and have given up. My best advise would be to cut your lawn high and water it when possible. Through down some cheap fertilizer every couple months.

Anything else short of a total turf redo and your burning money.

Tried Chemlawn and Trugreen...waste of my time, watched the guys out the window one day, think they finished my relatively big lawn in seconds, had a problem with creepin' charlie (ground ivy) and red thread, they couldn't fix it...

Basically, I switched to purchasing and putting down Scotts by myself. I follow their 4-step program, dethach the lawn in the spring, and try to water the lawn when I can, lawn looks pretty good put took me a couple of years to turn it around

You can always hire the sponge to roll around the yard he's got enough bullshit in him to fertilize the whole state

I've heard from many golf course superintendents that chem-lawn is awful and a rip off. The superintendent that works at my club now said they showed up at his door one day telling him what he needed to do w/ his lawn. he said they were idiots

my yard is green with no weeds throughout the growing season which here in Texas is about March-October. They come every 3 months and charge me 43 bucks each time. I have to buy nothing, I probably actually come out ahead not having to buy fertilizer. Anyway this it what I do and they do a great job, my yard is small, but we have some weeds each winter they take care of with the first treatment.

mow it high. Fertilize in the Spring and in the Fall with some kind of weed and feed. Do not mow it too short; I repeat, mow it high.
