question for email experts

Ok, here is the question. I've recieved 4 emails this week with a subject line but no body or attachments in the email. They are from 4 different senders, and I've never heard of any of them. The four subject lines are as follows:

Campaign
A special good tool
Hello,eager to see you
All of your favorite stars are here...

Now, with virus laden attachments I have recieved in the past, there might be stupid subject lines like this, but there would also be a short message in the body and then an obviously infected attachment.

Does anybody know why or how I would get these? This stuff always baffles me. However, I only get these weird emails on my hotmail account. My personal email address is safe as I don't give it out to anybody but close friends and family. Thanks for any enlightenment u might have to these weird emails.

i get a minimum of 25 of those things daily. my norton quarantines them and i delete the email. i never open them so don't know what's inside.

It's all spam...I get about 15-20 of those a day. Once you submit your e-mail addy to any sort of online service or advertisement, for instance, you pretty much get on an e-mail spam list sort of like those telemarketer lists. There are some sophisticated softwares that do all the work of scanning the web (newsgroups, chat sites, etc.) that grab your e-mail addy and from there it is tossed around the net like a cheap harlot. As long as you have anti-virus software that scans all incoming and outgoing e-mails, you should be fine.

Almost definitely spam or self-replicating viruses here...I would recommend you get Norton Antivirus if you don't have any protection. Also, I have a yahoo account that I give out in situations where I think I might get spammed. It sounds like you are doing the same exact thing with your hotmail account. If you don't like hotmail's ability to filter spam, then check out yahoo. It will catch most spam and throw it in a "bulk" mail folder automatically. If a spam message gets missed, you also have the option to block the address from future emails and report them to the yahoo admins. I have almost completely eliminated the spam using this tool. It works.

My yahoo account gets over 100 emails a day, that I don't want. I got tired of hiting the "opt-out" button, and just delete my bulk mail every day.

I love the ones that have the 'opt-out' at the bottom, and I use that function, only to have MY mail bounced back as undeliverable!

I would advise anyone to never use their real email addy for anything other than friends and family.

I am like everyone else,it's amazing how much junk mail I get. I never open mail from someone I don't know.
I'm pretty much computer challenged. Where can I get anti-virus software? Is it easy to install?

I went to that site & hit where it states Download Now.Then another page came on for me to register asking me something about job function, industry, company size. What is that all about?Also what is cydoor, savenow,delfin,medialoads,b3dprojection, new net?
Am I missing something?

OK I clicked on the Download link and saw what you're talking about. It's something new that CNET has added. Just fill it out (you don't have to put your real e-mail or personal info either) and continue the download.

Keep me updated.

Thanks for the responses. However, spam or not, what purpose does it serve for someone to email a subject line like that with no text in the body and no attachment?? I can see some sickos might get off on sending people viruses, but what do people get out of sending just a stupid subject line and nothing else? :shrug: I don't get it.

Sorry guys. Go to your Programs and open up Kazaa from there.

Click on the Search button on your menu bar at top
Type in Norton anti virus 2002 under "Search for:"
Click on Software, then Search Now

From there you can double click on one of the available files to download. You may want to choose a few as some take longer than others. Click on the Traffic button in the menu bar to show the progress of the download. If there is a file you no longer want to download, right click on it and choose Cancel Download.

Once the DL is complete, click on the My Kazaa button and it should show up in your Software folder. It is just like installing any other program at that point.
