been in quite of a "whirlwind" in my life right now...
i have a family member who is currently having gambling problems and need to find help...
one of the options is for him to enter the military active...
so my question is, if someone enters gamblers anonymous or any other kind of program like that, will that deny him of getting accepted? will the military find out about his background? what are the rules and regulation with the relation between gambling and joining the military (most likely air force)...

i know its alot but thanks in advance

really need some help

I'm not sure how it could affect it unless he's bilked somebody or done something else illegal and he's trying to run from that?? GA is not an issue, b/c obviously, it's anonymous. GL to him! I always think the military is a perfect option for somebody who needs direction and is tired of being a fock up.

enlisting questions

When in doubt call a recruiter and ask. Probably a bigger question is ...how does going in the military going to help?....if he were to continue with the problem and have it effect his ability to pay debts, care for a family, etc...this woukd cause him further problems. Good luck to him!

saw this thread... I'm entirely too busy to write a lengthy response to it however.

(too busy holding my anti-conspiracy meetings)

If he doesn't have any legal action against him from gambling then they cant hold it against him.

a good rule of thumb to remember during enlistment process --> if there is no paper document stating it, it doesn't exist.

So he probably would be best not even discussing it.

now, if he does have some serious debt around it which has resulted in financial problems - bankruptcy, foreclosure, anything like that.. then it may hinder his ability to get a clearance if he ends up in an occupational field requiringing it.

marine, thanks for taking the time...so it would not be a good idea to file for bankruptcy?
