Whats up fellas, hope everyone having a suceessful hoops season. Anyway, Posted a while back about questions about apt's in LV and the like, and got some harsh reality answers from Fletcher...Anyway, I have done some research on apartment's there, as well as remember Nolan's post about needing 35k income to stay afloat there. I also remember Nolan saying, he has gone walking around at 3-4am, in not so great areas, and never had a problem. He also said go to apartments.com and look at it, which I did.. Have a few questios I got from reading that
A) I found many "affordable" places for me, that are close enough to the strip. But reading reviews from tenants, It seems the ones that are affordable for me (5-600 per mo or less), all have drug infested, animals in the apartments, car thefts, etc, which I dont feel like dealing with, but I guess u cant avoid it. Was wondering if anyone had any names of complexes, or know any friends in any, that enjoy it, and dont have to worry about being mugged, or car being stolen all the time... If my car was stolen Id be fked, own it outright and very important to me, obviously, maybe I am paranoid. Just seems to me more crime than Im used to out there, but cant afford where fletcher lives obviously is a nicer area. Nolan, what vicinity area do you live in? I was looking maybe in the UNLV area, looks semi-affordable, but the areas near w.charleston, e.desert inn rd, and some others, esp north nellis blvd, ton of hoodlums and the like, I always mind my own business, hard enough winning and trying to make it financially, but when worrying about your well being also, makes it that much harder. Was wondering what area, or specific complexes anyone could reccomend, I was going to use a service which is free, havent got around to it, or call local police dept but theyll probly blow smoke up my a$$ too, only can trust people that know or have been there....Appreciate all the work you do Nolan and the insights you provide, and appreciate your response, good luck everyone in bowl season

just bumpin this up so hopefully ND sees it tomorrow so I can get a response....Funny story btw Nolan, sometimes that crap happens. Looks like Lebron James is the real deal on another note, looked damn good tonight, albeit the hype is insane with dicky V and the gang, gets a bit tiresome...g luck to everyone in hoops this weekend, hopefully someone can read my thing and knows something, would appreciate it, and happy capping again to all

***One correction. I need to make a distinction that I had some common sense about it. Never walked around with nice jewelry or anything of value. I also had long hair and a beard (looked like one of the Allman Brothers I was told) so everyone probably looked at me and thought I was a derilict. Funny, the people were probably scared of ME!

He also said go to apartments.com and look at it, which I did.. Have a few questios I got from reading that

***The further away from the Strip you are, the better. Lots of nice places in the 600-800 range on either the West Side or Green Valley -- whcih is probably where you want to be. Under no circumstances would I want to live right near the Strip (exception -- LV Country Club). When you go home, you want peace and quiet, not horns honking, drunks screaming across the payment, and tourists gawking all over the place.

***You need to push your number up a little. All the places that are in that range are pimp factories or apts with half of El Salvador living inside them. You don't want to live in those hellholes. Get off the Strip, expect to play closer to 700-800 and you will see a world of difference. Lots of nice places in that range.

Was wondering if anyone had any names of complexes, or know any friends in any, that enjoy it, and dont have to worry about being mugged, or car being stolen all the time...

***Try SHELTER COVE. Runs about 600 for a 1 bedroom, about 750 for two bedroom. Very quiet, clean place, two miles off the Strip on the West Side.

If my car was stolen Id be fked, own it outright and very important to me, obviously, maybe I am paranoid. Just seems to me more crime than Im used to out there, but cant afford where fletcher lives obviously is a nicer area.

***No one can afford to live where Fletcher lives, except Wayne Newton and Sigfreid and Roy. He's DA MAN. :)

***I don't like the East Side (just personal preferance). Most things on the West Side past Decatur are new, built in the last 10 years. Clean and affordable. I'm not crazy about the northwest side either, but I guess I am biased to the area where I live in, as anyone would be.

***I looked at a lot of apt. complexes and settled on Shelter Cove, near Sahara and Decatur. Everything I need is walking distance. When I first moved here I biked around town. Then about a month ago, I bought a new car and it sits in the lot (covered parking). No problems -- so you don't have to worry about the safety issues. My wife and mother in law are moving out here in a month or so and we'll probably buy a place up near The Lakes (far West Side). Either that, or move to Reno in a year (wife likes Reno). Not sure about future here. I'll leave it up to her. The point is -- shop around. Lots of move in specials. Good luck.

While the job fell though, a good buddy of mine and myself were going to move to the area had he gotten the job he was looking at. So we looked into moving into Henderson. We found some nice places for a decent cost, and I even asked Fletcher about them and he vouched that they were nice, quiet neighborhoods. The cost was about 975 for a three bedroom, so for a one bedroom it should be cheaper than that. Granted, we're both college graduates and his job was going to be a very healthy information systems job, but still, if you're willing to pay 600 to live in shady areas near the strip, it shouldn't be an issue to pay a little more to live in a nice area in Henderson.

Thanks Nolan for the thoughts, Much appreciated, same to you bjfinste...7-800 bucks is a bit for a single guy in early 20s, but you get what you pay for I suppose. I certainly will work my a$$ off to come up with the extra cash, in order to make sure my god damn car doesnt disappear, not worried about violent crime really.......All of the places I saw that were 5-600 were the east side basically, which probably is a shithole, all the reviews I read said just that. Sure, Id love to live in a nicer place, and I hope damn well that If I come out that I can..Im sure theres some decent places nearby where you can bike to the strip and make your bets. Im sure there arent, and I know you said you didnt know about jobs at golf courses, but when/if I come out, Ill have 3-4 yrs of experience working at a golf club, work at the country club here currently...Unfortunately, its hard for transient's to get decent jobs out there, especially at country clubs, where the workers have been there a while, and are locals, but the guy who runs the bag room at my club, is a guy in early mid40s, single, smart guy w/not even a high school degree, but hes excellent at what he does, and has little overhead although living expenses high here, he has no family....Maybe theres a longshot some golf club has an opening at that time, which could help me along maybe.....Ill be keeping all your help in mind, as this process takes time, and I am young guy without a ton of backing, gonna take me a bit, thanks again to everyone, appreciate all the input I can get
