Say a team is playing at home today, and playing on the road tomorrow (Milwaukee at Colorado)

Does Milwaukee's starting pitcher travel ahead a day or two to rest up?

YES...they definetly do. I've heard of it mainly during the playoffs when the games are so important. I'm sure regular season they do as well, but just don't promote it as much. Definetly sounds like a good idea....no reason not to do it IMO everytime if the schedule does that to you.

NO, they definitely don't do it that often. Sure it happens, but a lot less often than you guys think. In fact it's almost a rarity. Happens more in the playoffs, but for the regular season it rarely happens anymore unless the team is traveling real late in the night for a day game.
