Box and One, or any other b-ball coaches out there. Is there an unwritten rule (like baseball has so many of), or gentlemens agreement, that you won't foul late in the game when you're team is up 3? Maybe something unsportsmanlike about fouling in that situation.

This situation happens all the time, message boards rant about it constantly, yet you rarely see a coach do it. These guys aren't idiots, they know the game.

Do they feel it's more likely to make 3 FT's instead of a desperate 3? That's the only rationale I can come up with. Of course if you foul quick enough it'll only be 2 hots.

Let's hear from some coach's or ex-coachs.

I'm no coach, but I'm smarter than most. There is no agreement there, just stupidity.

Xavier has no one to blame but themselves for not being in Sweet 16. Luckily I got the 1/2 pt win and also OhioSt ML on a parlay that is still going strong.

Just insane not to foul there.

Only other thing I can think of is that they don't trust dumb players to carry it out correctly. In that case, recruit a smarter player that doesn't jump quite as high.
