or people who have a good read on LSU team.

I am thinking about taking LSU over ASU. Only one thing stopping me. LSU defense. Now i know it is highly touted and experienced etc. But the honest truth is LSU defense is not really tested agianst a sophisticated passing attack in the SEC. QB play isn't anywhere near QB play in the Pac 10. Offenses are not nearly as sophisticated.

So do you think LSU D will play well and be prepared against ASU offense? LSU D was not impressive at all against Pac 10 team in Oregon St. @LSU. Couldn't defend OSU offense and that was with SABAN as coach. That is my only question mark with this game.

Otherwise LSU outclasses ASU talent and experience wise and you are getting the top 3 talented team in the country +1 over ASU? A LOT OF VALUE which I like. I was leaning ASU +8 over LSU but now I love LSU +1. Always love taking the more talented team to just win the game SU.

LSU D is the strong suit of that team. Their question marks are on offense, specifically the QB as most know. The Defense is stout. To think the SEC doesn't have good passing is simply not true. Auburn last year through the ball all over the field, and Jason Campbell's worst game was against LSU last year bar none. While it's true the SEC West definitely has far less passing ability than the east, LSU is still very solid on defense. That is the one aspect of that team to trust.

The one thing I would worry about is LSU QB (Russell) playing erratic on the first game of the road and putting them in a hole, or not being able to keep up with ASU's offense. (LSU's offense can be so bad that they honestly lose if they get behind two touchdowns). It all hinges on the LSU offense. The defense will be there.

:mj03: anderson had 47 attempts but only 231 yards. any time a qb has over 40 attempts and doesnt approach 300 yds, youre doing something right. 47 attempts and only 26 completions. so youre rebuttal cant be, well they threw underneath and completed a lot of passes. because they didnt. in fact, id say it was a damn good defensive performance.

if anything, osu's defense deserves credit for holding up against the physical run game of lsu (only 91 yards on 30 carries)

oregon state played really well that games... thanks in no part to their offense though

I like your confidence in the LSU D. I am not too concerned about LSU O. Just the D.

The game was played @LSU! I thought OSU was effective in moving the ball in their first game of year on the road in hostile environment. OSU had no rushing attack whatsoever. 1 dimensional. Tough to ask for an offense to produce in game 1 of year on road against one of the top defenses in SEC.

I think LSU not having a game under there belt scares me worse than there offense or defense.. Also not having Broussard running the ball with his bully style running takes away from there power running game some.

LSU will run the ball down the Sun Devils' throats.. ASU is without their THREE best defensive lineman.. Caldwell, Hollyfield and Hill.. both Hill and Caldwell were expected to go... Caldwell is a preseason all pac-10 DE.. if he plays it will be at 80 percent.

In my opinion it is absolutely moronic to take LSU for the following reasons:

1. New Orleans tragedy
2. First game
3. First road game
4. ASU had a cupcake game already to get their feet wet

No matter what happens in this game, ASU is a legitimate Top 15 team and probably higher. Why would anyone gamble on an LSU team playing their first game on the road against a very good team with all of the off the field concerns that the LSU kids have had to put up with? It makes no sense to me yet the public is playing LSU

Good info. Thanks!

Good pt. ASU has all their kinks worked out. But I think ASU might need time to adjust to speed of LSU. Very fast. Look how ASU played @USC last year.

The new orleans tragedy will not effect this team at all. The first road game and the first game this season might effect them.

And yes LSU speed will pose a problem for ASU. IF Russell can play up to his expectations then this will be a good LSU team.

It was pouring rain that night. As you know, sloppy field aids route-runner in man coverage, because they are able to brace for cuts while the DB is forced to react.

As for tonight, I feel LSU wins. If their heads are right, LSU should be able to wear down ASU front as ASU DC (Miller, I think) claims LSU did to his Gator D last year.

LSU DBs could have some problems against heady ASU QB. Remember though, LSU returns both starters at the safeties including 3rd yrear starting Junior, Laron Landry. Aslo, Ronnie Prude and transfer Sammy Joseph provide above average cover ability outside.

ASU could have some problems of their own covering classy LSU WRs, while trying to contain strong LSU ground attack.

Tigers 27-17. I played the under52.5 and will likely add LSU ML.

How can you say that and expect anyone to buy into it? I assume plenty of these kids have family, friends, etc. killed or still missing. That is pure ignorance my friend and I say that respectfully because I feel your emotions are getting the best of you by stating what you said above.

Does everyone hope LSU comes out and plays well? Certainly but how can it be reasonably expected? They have been removed from the situation but do you really think those kids haven't opened a paper or watched the news?

FYI, no LSU players have any close friends or realtives killed or missing. The only "pure ignorance" in this thread are your assumptions about the well-being of player's families. If emotions are getting the best of AGEECEE, then what is the excuse for your ignorance?

Andrew Walter is gone and so is their "sophisticated passing attack".

No one is missing family from New orleans-sure some of the players houses might be underwater but seriously that will not effect there playing ability and the outcome of this game. What a stupid statement on your part. bet you kind of feel dumb now.

So there are not any players on the LSU team that know of someone who is still missing or killed?

And yes, I don't have any excuses. . . I am just ignorant. Clearly the LSU kids will not let the tragedy effect them in the least bit. . . I'm sure the practices have been stellar and their focus is squarely on the game tonight just as your focus is ONLY on the game.

And no, I don't feel stupid at all. . . you said the tragedy will not effect them at all. . .

Again, believe what you want. . . I am sure these kids are football gods but are they really ready for this game as they could have been without what happened and the fact that the game is now in Arizona? Probably not. . . but I'm sure you're willing to believe these kids are taking it all in stride just like you've read in the papers.

Certainly the situation in Louisianna will effect the game. It already has...venue change. However, my feeling is that the events surrounding Katrina will only serve to fire up LSU and increase their focus in a game that they now feel they must win. Maybe the line should have moved in the other direction!

the only thing that will effect LSU is this is a road game and not a Home game. I guess we will see at the end of the game if Katrina affected them or not.

if they lose then they wil say it affected them. if they win then it did no affect them.

personally i think that is the farthest thing from there mind is Katrina
