Does your hospital have masks? Seems like a big problem at the moment.

Have you cared for patients that have been diagnosed with COVID-19? If so, what is it like?

What is it like working at your hospital currently vs. other days?

What is your personal opinion of the seriousness of COVID-19?

What else can you tell us about working during this historic moment in our nation?

I think this COULD be referred to in coming years as "2020" just like we say 9/11.

On the course!
I have a stopgap plan.

Very few areas in the country need this equipment at this second. If every place could send some of their supply, it would ease the tension on those burdened outlets.

Does your hospital have masks? Seems like a big problem at the moment. ****Very limited to no N-95 masks, reusing PAPR systems. Cleaning between employees. BS

Have you cared for patients that have been diagnosed with COVID-19? If so, what is it like? ****Yes, very sick, like the flu, and often they get pneumonia on top of it which complicates matters. If u have late stages COPD, it?s a death sentence.

What is it like working at your hospital currently vs. other days? ****Really weird here. Hospital is dead and not busy. I guess many are staying home, the bs admits u always have are NOT getting admitted, and 400k+ tourists are not here, and usually we have about 10-15% of patients that are tourists.

What is your personal opinion of the seriousness of COVID-19? ****I thought it wasn?t much at first, and now I?m a believer. My parents have heeded my advice and are essentially shut ins now Bc they are in a high risk group.

What else can you tell us about working during this historic moment in our nation? ****If you know history, nurses are sort of like the Forlorn Hope from the Peninsular War. It?s also even more clear than ever that administrators don?t care about employees and their safety. I?m personally not scared at all to work. My only fear is becoming infected and spreading it to others.

I think this COULD be referred to in coming years as "2020" just like we say 9/11.

Answers above. I?ll add that people who clearly should be tested are not. I?m not an epidemiologist, but I would take an educated guess that there are at least 3-5 times MORE people who have this than are reported. I guess testing positive for most people just means isolation since we really just treat with supportive care (breathing treatments, IV fluids, steroids, pain management, and antibiotics for secondary pneumonias/bronchitis).

Don?t have that equipment here except in the ICU. Imagine having 6-8 patients and trying to get in and out of that gear for even one of your patients. Impossible! It?s already too much work. What if your patient codes? They would be dead before you got all that gear on and got help in the room. It?s not possible to adequately protect yourself and still take care of people who need help. Some things have to give. Some of these people who aren?t in critical condition literally call out 5-10 times an hour!!
