I haven't been much of a totals player but I wanted to at least post what I looked at for this game.

Reds have averaged 5.3 runs over their last 3 while Bucs have averaged 5.8 runs over their last 5. Littlefield and McClendon talked about demoting Anderson to the bullpen this week but kept him in the rotation, possibly to show him off as trade bait. Dempster was just given up on by Florida and he responded by sucking for the Reds last time out.

When I saw the total at 9.5, I thought that was insane because the Bucs go under more than just about anyone and Anderson has had success against the Reds in the past (as lefties often do). I think this may be a trap, though, and the over looks like a good bet when you consider the hot lineups and the cold pitchers. One note of warning is that both bullpens are excellent.

Chances are I will pass on this play since I don't play many totals but check out the over for yourself. Good luck today.

Pirates have scored 29 runs in the second half so far. Giles has absolutely on fire since not being picked for the all-star game. Don't be suprised to McClendon to replace Anderson in the game and in the rotation at the first sign of trouble.

I see the Pirates w/Giles very similar to my hometown team the Dodgers w/Green. When both Giles and Green perform at the plate their respective teams respond with a "W", while if both Giles and Green struggle at the plate their respective teams struggle as well. I don't understand why more teams don't pitch around Giles instead of grooving a fastball right down the middle of the plate for him to hammer. Just my two cents.

Jake-I've got to differ with you on our Dodgers. I've been watching a lot of Dodger games lately and what is happening is,nobody else(except A.Beltre finally his last couple of games) are hitting.S. Green IS a HITTER,he can't do it by himself, that's why were losing 5 of 6.:nono:

Giles doesn't get the credit that he deserves just because he is with a struggling team. He is in the top 5 in homeruns, batting over .300, and has been second to Bonds in the OPS column for some time now (this is only because Bonds gets walk atleast once a game.)

Antonio,

Thanks for posting that. I forgot the exact number but I knew the Bucs skewed under heavily this season.

I think Giles and Green both have their teams go the way they go just as any star does. That said, I think the Bucs being healthy, especially in the bullpen and with Ramirez, is a bigger factor for their recent good play. I have been dumb and haven't played them nearly enough in the second half but I think they will be a good team to watch the rest of the way.

If you can get 9.5 you should definitely go under. The total is now at 8.5 at some outlets. The starters do look lame but those bullpens could definitely save the under. Bucs bullpen doesn't get the credit they deserve.

With all due respect to Green (hell of a hitter), I'd take Giles over him in a heartbeat. Hell, I'd even toss in Jeff Reboulet as part of the deal.................
