Not official yet, RA Dickey, Mets ace for 2012 and Cy Young winnah, going to Jays for a string of minor leaguers, including Buck who's started at catcher for Jays among other teams, Mets also to ship a PTBNL and Josh Thole (he sucks) to Jays. Part of a 7 player deal, mostly minor leaguers.

Jays really trying to make a move in the AL but man oh man, tough to beat the Birds with how they did in 2012.

Mets could finish like the Astros did in 2013, in the basement with the leagues worst record.

I believe the deal is pending Dickey singing an extension (which they have 72 hrs to negotiate)

Steep price, but In AA we trust. :toast:

TORONTO -- The Toronto Blue Jays have a trade in place to acquire reigning National League Cy Young Award winner R.A. Dickey from the New York Mets, according to a report from FOXSports.com.

Sources: #Mets, #BlueJays have agreement in principle on Dickey trade. Window open for Jays to extend Dickey, which would complete deal.

Citing major league sources, the website reported Sunday that the deal is contingent on the Blue Jays and the knuckleballer coming to an agreement on a contract extension. The two sides reportedly have a 72-hour negotiation window that expires at 2 p.m. ET on Tuesday.

Negotiating window for Dickey extension is 72 hours, expiring Tuesday at 2 pm ET. #Mets #BlueJays

Citing major league sources, the website reported Sunday that the deal is contingent on the Blue Jays and the knuckleballer coming to an agreement on a contract extension. The two sides reportedly have a 72-hour negotiation window that expires at 2 p.m. ET on Tuesday.

A spokesperson for the Blue Jays declined to comment on the report.

Dickey, a 38-year-old right-hander, is signed for US$5 million next season but is seeking an extension thought to be worth $25 million over two years.

The New York Post reports that the Mets would also send catcher Josh Thole and a non-elite prospect to the Jays in exchange for catchers Travis D'Arnaud and John Buck, right-hander Noah Syndergaard and another non-elite prospect.

The 23-year-old D'Arnaud is viewed as the Jays' No. 1 prospect, while the 20-year-old Syndergaard is ranked No. 3.

Dickey, who went 20-6 with a 2.73 earned-run average for the Mets in 2012, is coming off a season in which he led the NL in strikeouts (230), ERA, innings (233 2-3), complete games (five) and shutouts (three).

Despite battling an abdominal injury, Dickey became the Mets' first 20-game winner since Frank Viola in 1990 and the first major leaguer in 24 years to throw consecutive one-hitters.

He was cut by the Mets in spring training in 2011 but worked his way to New York and earned a spot in the rotation by the end of the season.

Dickey languished in the minors for 14 years, bouncing from one team to another before finally perfecting the perplexing knuckleball that's made him a star.

He joined Dwight Gooden (1985) and three-time winner Tom Seaver as the only Mets to win the Cy Young Award.

Smart move on the Mets part long term selling high on Dickey. Sandy Alderson is one of the best baseball people out there.

They traded Dickey for the top ranked catching prospect in baseball, and a top prospect arm in Noah Syndergaard.

The mets got a haul for Dickey.

interesting...

Over the last three seasons, the Mets are 53-39 on the days that R.A. Dickey pitched, and 177-217 on the days he didn't.

Jays' rotation in '13 lines up in some order: Dickey, Morrow, Buehrle, Josh Johnson, Romero

not bad at all...

Even though long term I think the Mets got the better of the deal I realize why Toronto did it. The window has opened in the AL East so might as well go for it.

Romero goes from opening day starter last yr to #5 starter...wow. Steep price, only time will tell:popcorn2 , but a risk worth taking imo. Arencibia will give you 20+ homers at catcher minimum..with large upside also..which made D'Arnoud somewhat expendible..you have to give to receive and the Jays definitely gave....Lets go Jays!!!:0074

Toronto definitely has the best team on paper going into this season in the AL east.

Its just hard to imagine Dickey sustaining his success.

Its crazy to see the power in the al east swinging like this.

I think it almost looks like this at this point.

toronto
tampa
baltimore
nyy
boston

I think orioles add Morse and Saunders still and Tampa ends up with morales and Conger from anaheim for Niemann and a prospect.

Its hard to get excited about the moves boston and the yankees have made this offseason.

With Buerhle there, you may see Romero go to the pen, middle guy, he faded after a solid first month of the season in 2012, he got pounded 80% of remaining starts, so quite likely unless he gets it back in the spring, he'll be destined for the pen.

Dickey has a pretty good record vs the AL since he went exclusively knuckle ball. When he was with Texas he was mostly fastball. He's got 2-3 good yrs left. Much better control if you can have any as a knuckle ball pitcher, than Tim Wakefield who got a ring with Bah-sten!
