First off im not an Obama hater or anything.. In fact I am anxious to see how this "change" whatever it maybe plays out...

But i do have one question..

It is racist to NOT vote for a man b/c of the color of his skin.. i think we can all agree

But is it not also racist to vote FOR a man ONLY b/c of the color of his skin???

I saw a picture on the cover of a newspaper today of a 58 yr old business owner who was voting for the first time! Does nobody else see anything wrong with this..??

It is obvious with the landslide win that most of white America can vote for the man no matter the color.. I honestly think that most of us honkeys could give a shit what color you are.. At least i dont..

I wonder if someday most minorites can do the same thing.. Im just saying when everyone as a country can vote simply on the issues then racism will truley be dead..

just a thought

good thoughts, but i posted something in another thread saying something to the effect that, if it was based on RACE ALONE OR SKIN COLOR, Jesse Jackson would of been a viable canidate, Obama has a uniqueness about him, he seems to be a uniter...he himself said he wasnt running on race, and not once do I remember him saying anything about race during the campaign...America is in such a sad state that I think EVERYONE was looking for someone to bring us all tohether as ONE NATION UNDER GOD and MOST PEOPLE saw Obama as that canidate....if the campaigns were reversed and McCain ran on the issues and facts that Obama did and vice versa...McCain would of been a walk away winner in my view. We will have to wait and see just what Obama is all about and to find out if he can move this country forward to being one and for everyone to remember the old love thy neighbor slogan, Ive been saying for a long time if there was as much love as hate in America this country would be great no matter who runs it, what we saw was the citizens of America coming together to make a change it wasnt or wont be Obama, but it has to be all of us...for the length of atleast one day that was done, on Nov 4th...now the challenge is out there to continue doing so, he can only help put another idea out there, he cant execute it.

I agree Gibson,

What had me steaming more than the first time voters was the folks they were showing along the lines of "Peggy the Moocher" who were spouting off---
As she told a Florida reporter on a YouTube video that has been viewed by hundreds of thousands: "Because I never thought this day would ever happen. I won't have to worry about putting gas in my car. I won't have to worry about paying my mortgage. You know. If I help [Obama], he's gonna help me."

oh well, its done and done. Time to move forward and hope for the best.

Don't you think it's a little more complicated than this?

If you want to actually have a conversation about this, then we can do it, but i'm not spending time and effort responding to someone who I don't think has even ever posted in this sub-forum, just so I can be ignored. I already have Weasel and Wayne to fill that role.

This Peggy person is obviously ignorant. No sense in going to other examples along the spectrum. She obviously will learn the hard way. That's fine. That's what this country has done over the last 8 years. We have learned the hard way.

Voting aged blacks came out at a whopping 13% this year. Compared to 11% in 2004.

Enough whites, 46% I believe, voted for Obama and a decent majority as always with the hispanics, Jews and Asians?

I mean, what's your point?

but African Americans account for 13% of the total population

This reminds me of the OJ acquittal in a way..

I overheard a girl(yes, she was black) talking at school today, and she said in one of her classes a guy said that the only reason Obama won was because all the blacks voted for him.

IMO, this type of comment is out of line and completely false.

Of course, I live in the deep south and this type of shit will always happen.

I am just tired of the ignorant people down here that don't understand anything about politics.

Then they want to say this country is doomed for the next 4 years, and they talk about moving to another country because Obama is a 'socialist'.

Do people not understand that every country outside the USA is socialist?

I ask them, tell me the definition of socialism and liberism, and they can not give me an answer.

socialism - means that workers, not private owners, would own and control the means of production: factories, farmland, machinery, and so on. In democratic elections, workers would vote for 1) their supervisors, 2) their representatives to a local and national council of their industry or service, and 3) their representatives to a central congress representing all the industries and services. Socialism has been proposed in many forms, ranging from republics to direct democracies, from centralized state bureaucracies to free market anarchy. Political scientists do not view the "socialism" nominally practiced by the Soviet Union as true socialism -- this was, essentially, a dictatorship over workers by a ruling elite.

liberallism - believe that private owners should own and control the means of production, formulate company policy, and have the right to select their own management team. Liberals would prevent them from abusing their powers through checks and balances like strong labor unions and democratic government.

I might have misunderstood your post...

maybe 13% of the total blacks in population voted.

I didnt mean to stereotype an entire race.. I am sure there are plenty of minority voters who made an informed decision based on the facts..

My point being all ive heard on the radio today is..
"We never thought we would see this day" and such and such.. And i dont want to take anything away from anyones struggles.. But the more and more i listened to people call in.... it seemed to be more about having a black man in office than anything else..

My hope is that he will be known as the 44th President Obama..

Not Obama the first black President.. Too me thats not what it should be about.. And that is not what people should be voting on..

Ive voted for Obama ,cause I thought he was the best candidate.Nothing else. With the landside victory ,I would think that was the main reason ,on a limb here but not my opinion, thats what that tells me.

Dont know who you voted for,but I would suspest McCain.

Man this is obviously too sensitive of subject to talk honestly about...

I AM NOT AN OBAMA HATER

In truth I did not vote.. I watched every debate and I didnt have a strong opinion for either one..
Both seemed to play the blame game way too much and didnt offer enough answers IMO

And as i said in the first post.. he won huge.. I agree most people voted for whom they thought was the best cannidate..

My issue came today when all i saw and heard in the media was race..

Seemed like a double standard with a number of suddenly new voters??? If im wrong im wrong

Funny how I could see if he was running as a black republican. There are those here that as Reb's would not vote or would cross over and vote for the white Dem. You just have to read a few of there post do know who. I wanted Mitt and when he went out I was ready to pass. But as a few here told me listen to this young man. Give him a chance. Well I come to find out he is one smart man. That alone after what we just went thru for 8 years was up lifting. The more I payed attention and followd what his plan is. I went with him. I pray he can help all of us with some good leader ship. The countries in tough shape.

gibb, I agree with your post partly, but as mentioned, if Obama had been on the Republican ticket, he wouldn't have won. I really think the black folks have to identify with platforms instead of just a person of mixed heritage. I can compare this to a woman candidate as well. Even though tontokowalski thinks the feminists will be outraged since Sarah Palin's party didn't win the White House :mj07: most people are smart enough to know that feminists are not going to vote for a woman just because she's a woman if she doesn't believe first and foremost for choice (pro-abortion on demand).

Jesse Jackson is a complete buffoon, and most people of all races are smart enough to know that.

3 things led to Obama's win that no one can deny:
#1 George Bush --- Don't need to explain that.
#2 Selection of Pailin --- I think more republicans jumped ship than came aboard from the Clinton supporters.
#3 Race --- I have yet to hear a single black person say they voted for McCain.

I think race played a very small part in the election though(just led to the lopsided win).

Obama won Iowa and only 2% of the population in Iowa is black.

No I personally don't myself. We actually had a guy that won the county sheriff's race in Northwestern Ohio yesterday that hadn't voted in 10 years. The guy won by a landslide.

I know of another guy that's extremely patriotic, had a top secret security clearance with the old ASA (army security agency). The type of guy where all hell would break loose if you tried burning the American flag around him...very conserative in his way of thinking....about 54 years old...had about 300k income last year..voted once in his life.
