A rain-producing system is expected to move into the Louisville area shortly before noon Saturday and then hang around for much of the day, with a 50 percent chance of showers and an isolated thunderstorm around Kentucky Derby posttime at 6:24 p.m., the National Weather Service said.
Precipitation throughout the afternoon ?will be on and off, but the total rainfall will be one-quarter inch or less, and it won?t have a big impact? on the track conditions at Churchill Downs for the Derby, said Mark Jarvis, lead forecaster with the weather service in Louisville.
Skies should be mostly cloudy throughout the day, with intermittent showers. The high temperature at mid-afternoon is expected to be 70 to 72 degrees, dipping to 67 degrees or so around race time, Jarvis said.
