Ram Memory

No. no not bah ram ewe.

I just installed Nortons Internet Security w/ firewall & stuff.
Now when I try to do 4 or 5 things at once my comp says "Memory to low" or something to that effect.

Anyone else have/had this problem? Comp is fairly new.

Anyone out there use this Norton thingy?

Sounds like you got stiffed with a dumb ewe.

Here's the deal...your new program is hogging up the memory. There are actually several things we can do to try and rid the error.

First, tell me what Operating System you have (Windows 2000, XP?) and how much memory do you have in your system?

I'm going to sleep now so I'll check back with you in the morning.

Dont have too much time right now so will post more suggestions later. Here is one for now Senor.

It may be that you have a lot of programs loading up when you start your machine. These programs will occupy the computers memory so that they can be loaded faster when activated. To remove some of them from loading themselves into the memory:


Go, Start --> Run and type msconfig. Then click on the Startup tab. In there you will see a list of things that start up autmoatically when you boot up windows. If anything on that list is something you don't want to start up uncheck it, and that should free up some ram.

Senor,

I'm more of a browser here and still trying to learn my way around this site, but I do have a little expertise in this area.
Any norton software is nortorious as a system memory hog. For many applications we run here at work Norton must be disabled to free up more memory. You should just be able to disable it in the system tray in the lower right hand of your screen when extra memory is needed, then just start it back up when your done. Honestly that is the only workaround I've found, unless you were to add more memory, which is pretty cheap at the moment.:shrug: my two cents
