Lawyer: Ramsey Clark joins Saddam's defense team

The Associated Press
Published on: 12/29/04
AMMAN, Jordan ?
He used to be America's top law enforcement official. Now, he's apparently one of Saddam Hussein's lawyers.

The former Iraqi dictator's chief lawyer says former Attorney General Ramsey Clark has signed on to defend Saddam.

The lawyer says Clark joined the team after Saddam said last week he wanted to pass on his regards to the former attorney general.

The fiercely anti-war Clark has met with Saddam several times over the past 15 years and was considered a friend of Iraq when it was hit by sanctions in 1990 for invading Kuwait.

Clark's New York law office refused comment.

Seems like a patriotic thing for Ramsey to do.

WTF? Christ, this whole thing is right out of the bizarro world. Also, the terrorist group that set up those 28 Iraqi policemen/civilians for death yesterday has now 'imposed' a curfew.....

Scott Would not surprise me to see ACLU provide airfair and funding--with the NYT as in house journalist reporting of course in conjunture with Algezeera.

---and speaking of Algezeera they had a few additional comments from Clark--

"Clark comment

Clark said in the Jordanian capital Amman that his principle concern was protecting the former president's rights, who only saw a lawyer for the first time this month - a year after his capture.

"In international law, anyone accused of crime has the right to be tried by a confident, independent and impartial court, and there can be no fair trail without those qualities," he said.

"The special court in Iraq was created by the Iraqi governing council, which is nothing more than a creation of the US military occupation and has no authority in law as a criminal court," he said.

The Iraq Special Tribunal was established by the US-led administration in Iraq last December to try members of the former government.

Clark also said the US itself must be tried for the November assault on Falluja, destruction of houses, torture in prisons and its role in the deaths of thousands of Iraqis in the war."

Sounds like Clarks law firm is going to be tied up
for awhile. I would like to know who is paying
for Saddams defense.

It would be ironic if terrorists captured Clark over there and beheaded him.

I like the way Saudi media is handling fight on terrorists---

Saudi Says Kills 10 Militants in 2 Days of Raids-TV

20 minutes ago Top Stories - Reuters

RIYADH (Reuters) - Saudi security forces killed 10 suspected al Qaeda militants during raids and shootouts in the past two days, including a gunman who is on the kingdom's most wanted list, the Interior Ministry said Thursday.

A ministry statement read out on state television said three militants were killed on Tuesday while police shot dead seven on Wednesday after two suicide car bombs exploded in Riyadh.

The kingdom is battling a 19-month wave of violence by militants linked to Osama bin Laden (news - web sites)'s al Qaeda network.

The television named nine of the militants, who included Sultan Bejaad al-Oteibi -- on a list of 26 most wanted militants issued by the kingdom last year.

Security forces have now killed or arrested 18 of those on the list. State television showed graphic pictures of bloodied corpses, many missing limbs and with disfigured faces.

On Tuesday, Saudi security forces killed one militant and injured another in a shootout in Riyadh. Early Wednesday, another militant was killed after he lobbed a hand grenade from his car at police.

Later on Wednesday, police raided a house in Riyadh, killing seven militants officials said were linked to the two car bombs which exploded near the Interior Ministry and a security forces center in Riyadh.

slobodan milosovic....the rwandan torturers.......and now saddam.......

the trifecta.....gotta love clark..

he was lucky to get the saddam case,though.....

rumor has it, if our own eddie wasn`t busy working on a lucrative case( woman suing a dept store....she tripped over an unsupervised toddler....her own son),clark would have been left in the lurch...

it`s pretty much known that clark isn`t exactly a student of international law....eddie would have been a much better choice...

ramsey clark is nothing but a publicity hound. he is

the international mark gerogos(sp?).

saddam already has about 20 lawyers representing him so there was no need for ramsey clark.

it's amazing that he was in either kennedy or johnson's cabinet.

does the curfew include Americans ?

Yes, of course includes our troops. I understand that we're petitioning the UN to pass a resolution to get it lifted, though.
