Rangel eyes draft return

Rep. Charles Rangel yesterday again called for bringing back the national draft -- right at the Times Square recruiting station.
For the third time since the Iraq War began, the Harlem Democrat announced his plans to introduce a bill requiring all Americans to serve in the armed forces.
"If you love your country, be prepared to serve," said Rangel, a Korean War veteran.
Congress should stop funding the war and, instead, use tax dollars to bring troops home, he said.
Rangel, who this year was stripped of his chairmanship of the House Ways and Means Committee, said the bill calls for men and women 18-42 to sign up for the draft during wartime. It will likely be introduced next week.

""I want to make it abundantly clear: if there?s anyone who believes that these youngsters want to fight, as the Pentagon and some generals have said, you can just forget about it. No young, bright individual wants to fight just because of a bonus and just because of educational benefits. And most all of them come from communities of very, very high unemployment. If a young fella has an option of having a decent career or joining the army to fight in Iraq, you can bet your life that he would not be in Iraq.""

of course, study after study indicates that the military is not full of lame idiots with no other options....he`s either flat out wrong...or a liar..

the guy was in the military himself..maybe he was drafted and that`s why he`s so bitter?....his wiki bio says he "enlisted"...but i wonder,,,when he went in in 1948,it coincidentally was exactly the time the draft was instituted...

i question this because we already know this clown is a tax cheat and a fraud....and was recently stripped of his chairmanship of the ways and means committee due to ethics issues...

it amazes me that these guys like rangel constantly spout off all the time about the lack of jobs and yet take no responsibility at all for it...and get away with it year after year after year(this has been going on long before the recent economic crisis). ....why don't they get behind the whole 'enterprise zone' idea, or some feasible alternative?...why,because it behooves them to keep their folks beholden to the government...

hey charlie...after years of democratic(your) rule in your tiny corner of ny(and being the powerful chairman of the ways and means committee), why is your district still so crummy and dilapidated?...why the heck didn't old charlie bring home the bacon and get some jobs going in his district so these poor slobs don't have to go to iraq and afghanistan to make a buck? ...huh?...

because the only job a lifetime dem pol like rangel ever created was a government desk job for massive paper pushing and regulation oversight....

ashamed that a guy with some distinguished service in his past has become so jaded that he believes that the only folks that choose to enter the military today are either victims or bullies...

What if you don't love your government? I wouldn't sacrifice my life for our piece of shit government. Fuck them.

Love or trust or not believing in the cause ?

For me it's a difficult point to argue.

On one hand, with my years of service, most of honorable  it would be hard to turn my back on the Armed Forces. But with the never ending invasions of Sovereign Nations, when and where does it end ? So many needless deaths, horrible injuries, physical and mental to these kids, and they bring them back home to a fucked up VA system that does their best to help but the money isn't there.

I can only guess that Rep Rangels thoughts are to put forward this bill to ultimately end the wars by Re-enstating the draft by having everyone eligible to serve hit the roster, that to include the rich and priveledged, that will end the wars pretty darn quick when those parents start hammering the shit out of their Congressmen and Senators.

that`s a great way to run foreign policy.....try and blackmail the country into adopting a closed, isolationist foreign policy....

we aren`t fighting islamic governments(with the exception of a few theocratic, hard line terrorist abetters and sympathizers)...we`re fighting rogue islam....radical islam...and despots who invade their neighbors and thumb their noses at civilized rule of law.......

last time i checked,we don`t appreciate guys like saddam invading neighbors that are our allies and burning their oil fields......and oissing on dozens of u.n. resolutions and the rest of the civilized world......we don`t like rogue, neanderthal countries acting as bases for terrorist strikes within our own country and abroad...and we don`t sit on our hands while theocratic psychopaths like bin laden try and dictate our foreign policy....

last time i checked, bin laden neither headed or spoke for any legitimate government.....

bin laden is dead

Radical Islam is a made up term to describe Muslims who have gone off the reservation, no different than Radical Christians or Jews, not that you wouldever hear the MSM talk about Radical Jews.
