My goal is not to take a partisan perspective but to try and get a betting "read" on the Raptors in a new team situation this year. And to get a "read" on other teams as they come along. It's just that I have more access to information on these guys than on any other team.
Raptors having a bad start to season for good reasons. Really tough schedule to start for a team just coming together. Can't forget that GM Colangelo is the guy who built Phoenix. Think they have a chance at playoffs in a really really bad Division. Maybe some wagering opportunities here.
Now going on a 4 game road trip (lots of OTR games to start the season but it gets easier later on). This one is different from the earlier one out west, which was a really tough start for a new young team. Will be seeing Hornets tonite, Mavs tomorrow, then NY and Boston. Think they have a legit shot at 3 of these games, Mavs will be rough.
Question is...will the road losing streak end? Team is improving, playing defence now, deep bench and great efforts from guys like Calderon and Bargnani (first round draft, only given small minutes so far, playing lots more now, word is that Colgangelo suggested this strongly, interesting to watch as he is a 7 footer that does things that smaller guys do with ball on the floor, etc).
Hornets on a three game slide and have Peja out and West doubtful. These are their best outside shooters and opponents have been just clogging the paint in their losses. Averaging only about 78 points in this skid plus horrible shooting from the field and 3-pointers. This is a game the Raptors can take.
Lots more could be said. The total looks right on, slightly low by my season calculations but then Hornets injuries and Bosh wearing a knee brace and so struggling slightly and Mo Pete out, plus playing more defence, would drop it a few points.
As someone said, speed freaks Paul vs TJ Ford will be worth the price of admission tonite.
Raptors +4? (line appears to be moving down a bit)
