I need to have a 16 x 20 ft patch of my driveway redone, I was quoted $3/ft to get it done or $960 is that an average price? Just trying to get an idea.

Thanks in advance.

I, like Raymond, am in the concrete business. I have been told that to replace asphalt is roughly half of what the cost of concrete is and my tear out price is right around $6/sq.ft., so I would say that price is fair. Make sure and tell them you want "surface coarse" asphalt. It has the smaller rock and leaves a nicer finish.

Thanks, his proposal says:

The stone base will be rebuilt and 2" of compacted bitaminous surface mix asphalt will be added.

Not sure of the 3rd letter in bitaminous as it's not clear on the fax, but I am sure you know what that is. Also should I have him go 3" instead of 2"?

Thanks,

having a busy year

After not doing anything in January and February, I am finally getting some things done. Spent a month and a half building a waterfall on a golf course, and last Sunday, we got a six inches of rain and it washed part of it away. Now I get to go back and fix it now that all the new grass is coming up in the areas I disturbed while building it.:mj16:

c20916 2 inches isn't very much asphalt. Make sure they compact the base before they lay the asphalt. I would go 3" if it was me. If some sort of moving or delivery truck drives on 2" of asphalt when it is hot out, it will destroy it real quick.

They must of had 2" on there previously b/c that's exactly how it got damaged in the first place, when we moved in the moving truck made an indention in the driveway, and then it just spread and cracked from there.
