this thread stays respectful....the guy was our president and basically presided over the end of the cold war......along with gorbachev...who should go down in history as a great man in his own right...

reagan was greatly respected by many democrats as well as republicans...

i`m glad pres. reagan`s suffering is over....probably moreso for his family.....

r.i.p.dutch.........you`ll be remembered...with great respect and fondness from my perspective...

i will always remember when under Carter's presidency we had the failed attempt to rescue our hostages in Iran. We looked so weak. Then Reagan took office and they realized that he wasn't going to play those games.
I felt more proud of our country that day.

Hold on fellows. Greates of all time. Were talking about the greates of all time this week do to D. Day. Churchill and Roosevelt have been given that honor long time ago. Excellent Roney Was not the greates. Lets remember he had the Donal Reagan flare up and Oli North problem. I seemed to remember a marine barracks getting blowen to heck in lebanon. Unless he was not president at that time 1983. They all have there problems.
What we should be is Blessing him that his suffering has ended.
That Poor Man been thru hell last 10 years.
Mjolnir the deal to release hostages was almost 100% before he was sworen in. You may have forgotten how are military screwed up a rescue attempt.

agree with Churchill.....Roosevelt is responsible for the value of the dollar and chronic, worsening welfare state.....

two things haunting our country today

Reagan did his best to reverse that trend on both accounts.....i dont necessarily see how the Iran situation was bad for the country

I'll give him crddit for doing things his way and sticking to his guns despite what somes others said. I can remember certain elements in our society saying he was going to provoke war on his pusue against communism--remember the protests.--once again they were wrong.
I think if you look hard enough you can find fault with any administration--just depends on what your looking for.
I was amused at what the Arab world found to head line his death but since it is Sunday I would not be surprised to see reprint in NY and LA times on Monday. ;)

I usually do not post in threads where an individual and/or there family has suffered a trajedy as I find internet sympathy somewhat, shall we say, insincere and inappropriate for the medium. With that said, however, I agree with Gardenweasel that threads such as these, if they must be started, should remain respectful.

At the same time, Wilson utilizes this thread not out of respect for Reagan and his family but rather to take a veiled shot at Carter and his administration. Mjolnar did the same thing only not so veiled. Then of course, this forums resident psychopath, Dr. Freeze, admonishes the Roosevelt administration.

Comments such as "greatest president of modern era" can certainly be made by those who believe the same and I hope are not meant to bait those of us who might disagree. It appears to me that many of you who have posted on this thread do not really respect Reagan at all but rather are using his death as a platform to launch another attack against those of us who disagree with you.

The man died. Respect him for what he did. Acknowledge his accomplisments, even embellish them as many of youhave above. But do not use his death as a means to attack those that you politically disagree with. That is lower than low. That type of behavior reminds me of those scumbags hawking souveniers near the world trade center after 9-11.

Although I disagree with much of what he did, I will not use his death as a launching pad to put forth my agenda. Too bad many of you can't do the same. Hopefully, history will highlight his accomplisments in the 80's.

Dogs: you posted as I was typing the above. Your comments fit in as well. Using Reagans death to support your psychotic fixations. Getting the Arab perspective???? Unbeliveable. No wait, very believable.

Reagan was instrumental in the fall of the greatest threat to western civiliation of the later half of the 20th century, to wit, communism. Your fixation with the current issues facing this country have no place in this thread. This is low even for your standards.
