really screwed the windows 2000 nt server

tried to uninstall programs so i can have more free space
- uninstalled service pack 4 and really screwed the computer
as when you turn the computer on it says

the procedure entry point is wellknown si could not be located in the dynamic link library advapi32.dll.
and then you press ok

it says
this system is shutting down.please save all work in progress and log off, any unsaved changes will be lost. this shutdown was iniated bt

anyway of saving the computer

it should have some sort of recovery console where you can reload the operating system files

I take it there is no active backup of the server or a mirror :shrug:

Computer is fine the OS is hosed, when you uninstalled the SP you screwed up advapi32.dll -

1. Boot into Safe Mode.
2. First, be sure to locate the "good" ADVAPI32.dll file. It should be in the .:\WINNT\ServicePackFiles\i386 folder.
3. Delete the advapi32.dll in the System32 folder, and then copy the known-good one into the System32 folder
4. Now Restart the computer. or reinstall the OS -

for future reference disk is cheap (1TB for $150) and you need the service packs from micro$oft.

If you just reinstall the OS and do not format the HD you will not lose any data.
