Excuse my ignorance but how did he reach the speed of sound? I was under the impression that terminal velocity would kick in before he got going that fast.

thin atmosphere at that altitude probably decreases the drag.

I hope you had someone going through a detailed check list prior to you embarking on your experiement.

My favorite part was the couple of times the guy going through the check list would state "ok now we are getting serious". Really?! Don't you think the level of seriousness was pretty high already given the fact that guy stepped into a capsule and went 120K feet above the earth. It's not like this is a little kid having to walk back down the steps of the high dive when he got up there and realized it was too high for what he could stomach.

This makes sense. What was also interesting was the outside temperature at 120,000 feet was around 40-50 degrees Farenheit. Did not expect that

jump

I live here in Roswell where he jumped this time. Red bull team actually hired my company to clean all the trailors they brought in daily for the team. they tested everything in May of 2012, but when it came to jump it was to windy and they came back last weekend to actually jump. He landed around hagerman some 15 miles away i was told, and the balloon landed around artesia some 40 miles away.
They only owed me around 1800. but it took them 4 months to actually pay the invoice. Two brothers ran the operation and they were both really nice guys.

you are way off the temperature reading.

You have to give the guy on the checklist a break.

He was the previous record holder and he was not
a professional announcer. I think he was just as nervous as the sky jumper.
