Marist +5.5 over Siena
Marist is 0-4 having lost those games by a 4.3 margin.They blew 2 games so should be really 2-2.They are better then they have played.Young there best player is in a "funk".Ellerbee can shoot and Hood the Texas kid from lyr scored 26 pts off the bench in their last game.Foxes have trouble in the paint.So they added 6'9 McClurkin who is getting better and better.Handy is soft.But Monogan the kid with the bullet in his jaw can play.Marist has had trouble shooting.Shooting 26% from the 3 and 39% fg.
But maybe tonite in the tiny McCann Center they will find their stroke back.
Siena has Haddix the 6'6 stud inside.Mitchell is a solid pt gd.They have shooters and some big players inside.But they are coming off an upset loss by Monmouth 89-76.But Monmouth is tough.They play that "Princeton offense" and drive you crazy.Siena had breakdowns everywhere.
Siena has more talent and size.
But this is a rivalry game.Both teams hate each other.It's the battle of the Hudson Valley.Big crowd,tough place to play.
An added angle.Lyr at the NY State HS finals Magarity and a few of us coaches were all together.Marist had just lost to Siena 70-68 in the MAAC semifinals.Dave came up recruiting to Glen Falls.A few nites before he lost to Siena,the MAAC officials blew a big call with 6 seconds left.Marist called timeout down by 2 at mid court with the ball.The refs gave Marist the ball at the far end.Dave went nuts.The officials wouldn't change it.Marist had to dribble the length of the court and waste 3 or 4 seconds and took a desperation shot that missed.
Magarity in the lockerroom was screaming.He told his team manager to set up the tape up on the VCR so when I get on the bus I can see "where we called the time out.When the team all got on the bus to return to Poughkeepsie they watched the replay.The refs blew the call big time.The kid called TO right before the mid court line.
Dave watched it over and over and over.And kept saying to his team...don't ever forget this next yr"
Well tonite is next year.Marist might lose and get their butts beaten but I think they have some "fire" in there eyes and give the Saints a game tonite.
Nevada -4.5 over Portland. Synder is a stud.Pack inside should dominate.Port is tough but Pack has some offensive weapons.
