That was terrible play calling by the Iowa staff. 50 some seconds left and don't try and get into field goal range? Sit on the ball. On an away field you want to try and stay away form OT? Then in OT do what Oh St did--run 3 times kick a FG and try and hold them to a FG or win. I thought the Iowa coaching staff lost the game. 1st of all I did not think they had a chance in the game anyway--but the Iowa kids showed their hearts. but then lose it like they did was double disappointing. That fresh QB really showed me a lot. They have a good team but some dumb calls. I thought for a while Tressel was doing our play calling.

I could not disagree MORE. The staff lost the game? This is the same staff that just prepared a red shirt fr qb to play the game of his life in Columbus. The play calling in regulation was dead on and only a few dropped passes and a missed fg (EXECUTION) cost us.
You shorten the game and get to OT. You dont risk going 50 yards with a fg kicker that has looked like crap the last two weeks. I would have love to seen the reaction of Iowa fans if JV threw a pick in the final 50 seconds costing us a win.
We got to OT and had a chance.....it didnt work out.
Mark my words this Hawkeye team is FIESTA BOWL bound! I just dont get the "blame the coaches" when you yourself said we had no shot all week....they got this team prepared so well.
HG-Again when you are a vistior on that field you go for it. Oh St did the right thing in OT-we did not. yea they got us prepared-but I also think the kids really sucked it up and played at a super high level. We can agree to diagree but it won't change my mind. The young QB did not show he was going to choke with 50 seconds left. He had played well. Anxius to see how we get up for Miinn who is terrible. Woud love to see us get to the Feista Bowl--do we get that not matter what happens Saturday?
You will not get an at large BCS birth if you finish with 3 losses. Iowa has to win vs Minny and then it is not for sure but I think they will get the at large to the Fiesta Bowl vs Boise St.

YOU ARE ON THE FUKIN ROAD for christs sakes!! If you throw a pick6 or don't pick up a 1st down on 4th down, thats OK in my book. You work hard all week to get the team ready to play, the young QB plays a great game, you have the ball with one timeout and about a minute to play and you run that play? You deserve to lose doing that stupid shit.

My reaction to a pick there would have been at least we tried to win the game, rather than being a bunch of little bitches and sat on the ball like we did. that is the scenario being reported in the papers this AM. Iowa should roll the Goofers on Saturday and then its just a matter of what the bowl reps end up doing.
So now the coaching staff is full of idoits now? WOW, I have heard it all now. Again, this is the same coaching staff that has taken a team that has lost its 4 top running backs, starting QB, best offensive lineman, etc and got them to OT in the Shoe.
Have you watched Iowa football the past 11 years? What in the hell made you think Ferentz would go for it at the end of regulation? JV had thrown 2 picks already and had just thrown another that only a offside penality saved. You have a kicker that has been bad the last two weeks and are asking Iowa to go a minimun of 50 yards. Not gonna happen pal....
Kirk was 4-1 in OT prior to this and clearly knows what he is doing, hence the multiple big 10 titles already. We went into OT believing in our defense, knowing OSU had a backup kicker, and played the percentages. It didnt work out....
What i still cannot figure out is you questioning Kirk wanting to win or lose. If you have listened to him or paid attention over the last 11 years you wouldnt make such a poor statement. He did what he believed would give us the best channce to win....and the majority of the time his philosophy works. I dont think you need to personally question Kirk....do you even realize the impact he has had on not only Iowa football but the city of Iowa City and University of Iowa?
Maybe next year we can meet at Kinnick and we will be talking about GOING to the Rose Bowll...in the mean time the Fiesta bowl would be pretty fucking sweet!!
