Had a very nice surplus with taxes the same as they are today. BUT we did give everyone a so called tax cut. And 9/11 did not cause a deficit nor did Iraq. Our own government said Iraq has only cost us 100 billion. I wonder what caused the other 450 billion.
Lets see how fast we cans spend. Oh by the way the Walton kids there are 4 of them. Anyone have idea how much tax they paid on earnings of over 400 million. First ask your self how many tax lawyers that will buy to get your answer.
This is same government that says it can upgrade the S/S system. And it will only cost about a trillion. Hell just put the trillion in the system as it is today and it will last till 2070.

djv..Can you post something saying how much of a surplus the U.S. had on hand before the tax break was given?? Not trying to be a smartass here but does anyone know if the surplus was real or were they banking on it coming in later?

I still think it was the later but i havent found anything saying one way or the other.

We had a surplus in 1998, 1999 and 2000. It was less than 100 Billion, more than a 100 Billion and just short of 200 billion, respectively in those years. Thanks for letting me think back to the glory days under Sir Clinton ; times that we were fiscally responsible.

From an objective point of view, The Republicans controlled Congress so Clinton couldn?t spend the surplus and Clinton controlled the White House so The Republicans couldn?t give it back. Political gridlock is a wonderful thing.

Corporate Welfare would be a any subsidy that is given to a corporation out of public money that serves to enrich the corporation. My own definition but you know what I mean.

Can you give me any example where any income that you've earned has not been taxed before. It's kind of how the entire process works. But when it's the ownership class, suddenly it's DOUBLE TAXATION. Between Death Taxes, the War on Terror, Double Taxation - The wordsmithing of the conservative agenda has been very effective.

Kind of like a city building a stadium for a major league team to play in. Why should my taxes pay for a stadium so teams owned by multi-billionairs can pay drug infested freaks of nature millions to play in. Then raise the ticket prices so high that the working stiff can't take his family to go see a game because all the tickets are grabbed up by the local corporations who get to write them off of their taxes?

these stadium deals are a joke but completely different from local tax incentives for business

the people need to rise up and tell these sports teams where to go when they threaten to leave if they dont get a stadium financed....its a joke

But what about those who get real jobs at the stadium. I understand in Milwaukee there are 10 full time jobs just taking care of that place. And during a game there are over 100 part time jobs for folks.

Not all of them I would guess this stadium is top stuff. No one gave a chit nor put any money into the old one they just let it go to hell. Same thing our government does at times.

Is 10 full time jobs worth the millions of taxpayers money spent? Same with all the incentives given to big business. There is a point where it gets over done. Same as welfare. Welfare for people, therecomes a point where it is nuts. It works both ways.

In many cases the hand out's are not right. But many companies use threats of leaving a area if not given what they want. Part of that happens do to another part of the country trying to suck them away.

Like hell we did. There was no vote whatsoever with the residents. The idiots that were suppose to be representing us voted for that damn thing. That is why the guy from Racine got recalled and voted out of office. On the night of the vote the stadium bill failed to pass. The Governer had them re-vote 3 times till it came out the way he wanted. Guess who switched there vote the 3rd time so the bill would pass. Thats right...the idiot from Racine. Now guess who is going to foot the tab because of all the lawsuits between the Stadium Board and the contracter??? Yep the same 3 county area.

I din't know Tommy Thomson would give a chit. But he must have thought it was good for you all to have that nice new places.
I know it makes it easier for us to come to more games from here in La Crosse area because the game will be played no matter the weather. Again if these things are right or wrong I don't know. But all business seem to ask for and get things now days they never did in the past. Maybe there is better days ahead with the new owner.
