You think the 15 yarders were bad, how'd you like that "non-reviewable" fumble by the Vikings at the GB 3 yard line???
The "play whistled dead" rule has nothing to do with who comes up with the ball at the bottom of a pile. If you want to say that a play is not reviewable because a whistle blew, then no play is reviewable, cause a whistle always blows! (Or at least it seems the refs do as of late)
It also doesn't cover what happens *before* the whistle blows, which clearly was Daunte recovered his fumble. There was very conclusive evidence that he fell on it, had it in his arms, then was hit, still holding the ball, therefore making him down by contact. But, it could not be corrected by the official because it was ruled "not-reviewable".
I really hope the NFL fines the ref for that call. I understand they make misjudgements, call penalites that didn't happen, and miss penalties. It sucks, but they are human (I hope). But THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR A REFEREE TO NOT KNOW AND/OR UNDERSTAND NFL RULES!
How bout that nice lack-of-pass-interference-in-the-endzone-call in the Detroit game, while it was 0-0? The announcers actually had the kahunas to say the refs blew it, which there hasn't been much of this season.
